Thread: PSP Success and Battery Life Questioned Again

Why don't you offer some concrete evidence to disprove it? Everyone I've ever known has had problems sooner or later with Sony hardware, I'd absolutely love to see the numbers on it.

Sony's talking about a "revised" PSP before the original PSP even launches? Yeah, that's a great sign........

  2. I've known many people whose Playstations and PS2s have died miserable deaths, but... never me. I don't know if these people all beat the hell out of theirs, or what. Granted, my first PS was the 5000 series or so, and the second working one I grabbed at a flea market was a 7000, and neither of them have ever had a problem. My PS2's a launch one and it still works fine. Then again, I don't watch DVD movies on it, I always leave it in horizontal mode, and I don't leave discs in it when it's off. But I have seen it happen to a ton of people I know personally, so the problem does have to exist.

One could only hope. If I recall, didn't the GG battery pack have a belt clip? That's kind of funny, because I bet that thing could yank the pants clean off of a grown man.

Thing is still gonna sell bucketloads, only chance you got really is to hope for once, that word of mouth works against Sony.
Or people who don't see battery time as some sort of hardware fault.

If we're going on anecdotal evidence I can say that none of Sony's hardware ever fails because all my stuff works perfectly, but that would be stupid because I'm just one person. I mean everyone's free to speak of their own experiences, but when people chime in with stories of their PS2s going up in flames and killing their entire family I just have to roll my eyes.
You answered your own question. No one is judging the quality issue of Sony's products from one person experiance. It's not just one person saying "my PSwhatever" broke. It's a whole lot of people (for the record, my PS2 crapped out twice). Now retail numbers would be interesting to see, but I don't think that'll ever happen. Sony would never want those numbers to get out, and who knows if they even keep track of it themselves. Individual retailers probably keep track of returns though...but Sony may not let them publish that either. I'd be interesting to see how many of the 70 million ps2's are actual re purchases for replacements.

I'd call it a hardware flaw. I'd get one of the battery life wasn't horrible. Someone mentioned a GTA game, which would be awesome but the exact kind of game that would suck the battery dry in an hour. All of that loading and disc accessing would kill it. And just the load times they are reporting now (for ridge racer, 10-15 seconds) sounds crappy enough.

The battery is an issue. You play/watch/listen for 2 hours and the battery is dead. What if you're out..anywhere? A commute, a vacation, waiting a few hours to recharge after just a few hours of use sucks no matter how you cut it. And that's just assuming you bring the cable to recharge it and can even recharge it. At least it would be the most attractive paper weight ever made at that point.

You want someone to find #'s to disprove your anecdotal evidence?

Why don't you offer some concrete evidence abotu this 'revised' thing?

So wait and get one if the battery improves.

I don't really find myself out, far away from Electrical Outlets all that often, so this is not a concearn for me.

What were the load times for RRV? Do all PS2 games take that long to load?

I don't think we should use that as our benchmark just yet. Wait until it's out and early adopters get it. Then we'll see.

The GBA SP has kinda spoiled me then. I kinda like not having to recharge it after every time I play it for an hour or two. I usually only have to recharge it after 6-8 play sessions or so. Which is rarely any more frequent than once a week, if that. And I use the system pretty often.

EDIT: On the same subject, I don't own a DS yet, but I'm interested in how the battery life is (other than the Nintendo estimates). Now that people here have owned them for a couple weeks or so, could you estimate how long the battery life lasts for you?

he then watch movie from memory stick for around 40 mins in his class and then checked the battery again: "80%, estimated remaining movie playback time 4 hours". he said he paused the movie and checked the battery several times during that 40 mins (he did that too during the 1h of mp3 playback) and based on his observation, playing movies consuming the battery at least twice as fast as playing mp3.

he then showed off his new psp among his classmates. everyone awed and cam.

he listened to mp3 during his 1-hour home trip again. he watched movie for around 10 mins during that time. after he arrived home, he checked the battery again: 73%.

he said the mp3s sound much better on his psp than on his ipod.

//He leaves school, and after walking a quarter of the way home he notices classmates De-Andre and Thuggy McBaggypants walking behind him.

He gets the shit kicked out of him. De-Andre and Thuggy grab his PSP, go home, smoke some weed and play RR. still 53% battery life.

    Life is good.

I'm not into portable gaming, so I don't care either. But the PSP offers portable gaming that actually looks like it's could be great, but the battery issue kills any want for me to get it. I'm sure the battery issue will be fixed, it's just a matter of time.

Seems like Sony systems always have the worst load times. From early impresions I read, the boot up is about 10 seconds and loading each course is about the same.
