Thread: PSP Success and Battery Life Questioned Again

My 27" Trinitron has been moved to the master bedroom and still works like a champ. My PSX worked fine, till the day it was stolen from my apartment 3 years ago. My PS2 (GT3 package) is still going strong as well.

My guess is that most of the people having problems with their Sony systems, are probably running them into the ground. Sure the PS2 was made to play DVD's, but I'm sure it wasn't designed to be a DVD player for long periods of time. Moving parts wear out in the long run and heat from extended periods of playtime, probably were at fault as well. I generally run my systems for about 3 to 4 hours tops, at any given time.
But if your Sony Hi-Fi or TV breaks you'll buy a different brand because the CDs and TV input will work on any other brand. If your PS2 breaks you have all these games already bought and your only choice is to buy another Sony PS2 on which to play them. That is why Sony can get away with poorly built consoles.

work in retail for a few months and see just how many people come in asking about how to fix their broken PS2

also not every one can return their broken PS2, hell at Gamestop if it breaks after shit what is it like 7 days your fucked and have to deal with sony or buy a new one

and when people buy PS2's they dont ask them "Are you buying this for the first time or to replace one you have we need to have hard numbers on this"

the simple truth is that if you go out and look you'll see people all over the place with broken PS2's *knocks on wood* so far my PS and PS2 have been serving me well, but that doesnt change the fact that from working in retail in the past I used to see people every day on their 2nd or 3rd PS2s

and like YAWA said they just come in and buy another one, do they ever complain to sony, nope they just happily drop more money on another system

    anyway back to the PSP

when the PSP+ comes out and has 14 hour battery life that's when I'll grab one

I'm lazy I hate recharging things, hell I only recharge my cell phone maybe 1 a week if that

No, I'll replace it with another Sony product, because I know what I'm getting.

Like I said, I've never had a problem with my Sony products. The only console I had flake out on me, was the old Dreamcast. I ran that thing into ground and it's replacement as well.

I'm sure quite a few people have had to replace their PS2's. I've seen the condition of used games and consoles when I go to retailers like Gamestop and often wonder how those survived. I bought my (Used)Xbox from EBgames. The thing was covered in dust, including the vents. How much effort does it take to run a cloth over your console? Dust is the biggest enemy of electronics.

Let's not forget that the first run of Xbox units had thier problems as well. Just like my launch DC did, when it failed after a year of service.

  4. It could have a 2 hour battery and I'd have time to spare.

Who plays a portable 5 hours a day?

Isn't one of the drawing points of the PSP supposed to be that it provides better, more mature and more complex games? The whole angle Sony is taking is that these games will have more in common with the PS2 than the GBA.

If the PS2 overheated and crashed after being left on for four hours, it wouldn't be a big deal, right? I mean, really, who plays a game for four hours straight?

Why do people keep bringing up this stupid argument?

Sometimes you go places where you don't have easy access to a power adapter. Sometimes you go on long road trips. Sometimes you go on 18+ hour flights. Sometimes you forget to plug in your [insert gadget here] to recharge the battery every time.

People who say "OMFG you want a battery to last for 14 hours, who plays a handheld for 14 hours in a row?!?!" are really, really annoying. The people who want longer battery life aren't talking about using the item for that amount of time all in one sitting typically.

  7. From Tim Rogers over at www.insertcredit.com:
We charged up the battery and slammed the hell out of Ridge Racers with medium screen brightness (too bright hurts your eyes anyway) all over Shinjuku and it took -- I shit you not -- SIX HOURS AND THREE MINUTES for the battery to die. No joke. Put that on your weblogs.
He mentioned in a previous post he was playing at max volume as well, so it seems the whole 2 hour thing is stupidity.

Not everyday of your life. I'm sure on the rare occasion you're camping in the mountains for a week, you can deal without playing games for a couple days.

I wasn't bringing up an argument, I see everyone crying about it and was just saying the battery is plenty for me. Where are all these people that keep bringing it up?

For you to think that I would give enough of a fuck to be that excited talking about the PSP is annoying. I whispered it.

Right, no big deal. I could entertain myself long enough to turn it off and let it cool down instead of ripping my eyes out thinking about the fact I'm not on my 5th straight hour of a game.

  9. it's not a matter of playing it in one sitting it's a matter of convience

I don't have to charge my cell phone after every time I use it

as I think I said in this thread, i charge it 1 maybe 2 times a week and thats nice, if I had to charge the thing everyday I just wouldnt bother fucking using it

well the newer phones with high res screens, 262k colors, camera, bluetooth require you to charge them more often, they have around 3-4 hours of talk time.

i bet your cellphone is one of those with tiny monochrome displays.

if you want the newer high tech gagdets, you're gonna have to charge more often.

now they claim the PSP lasts for 5 hours of play time, which is good enough for me.
