Thread: Anyone have sales numbers for some of the fringe holiday titles?

  1. I'm wondering why VJ 2 bombed as hard as it did.

I mean, it had tv commercials, it had print ads.

Was it the new game mechanic? Did it just come out at the wrong time?

If it was good, wouldn't word of mouth prompted more sales?

All the magazines rated it highly as well, so I'm a bit unclear of why it bombed so hard, other than just blaming it on GTA / Halo, since those aren't Gamecube titles.

  2. Nobody outside of the gaming community knew what Viewtiful Joe was, so it's no surprise that the public is still clueless about its sequel. Even with the barren release schedule of the Gamecube this year, if they don't know about a game, they're not going to pick it up. If there wasn't so many other good games coming at us at a barrage, it's possible that VJ2 would have done better instead of getting lost in the game mountain shuffle.

The first game was only a marginal success and it was released in early october. Basically, there were just better games vying for that coveted holiday dollar, and VJ2 didn't offer enough new for fans of the original.

Well, it wasn't for lack of trying. The first was USA Today's GOTY 2003 and like Rouf just said, this sequel had TV commercials playing fairly heavily.

I think it was just more of the same-itis. It doesn't look different from 1 at all. Doesn't help that Capcom USA can't get down a good eye-catching cover to save their fucking lives, even with tons of great official art to work with.

  5. PS2 UNDER THE SKIN $14,684 370
EE-Yow! That just plain hurts to see, no matter how unappealing the game looks. Call it an hunch, I don't think Capcom is sending Gregory Horror Show our way any time soon.

Yeah, but nobody would have blamed DMC 2 for being "more of the same" had the game actually been good. Viewtiful Joe 2 seems to suffer the opposite: a solid sequel with really poor sales.

Oh well, I have my copy, I love the game to death, and there will most assuredly be a third, so I don't mind much.

  7. Vjoe would have been much more fun if it was half as long.

Well... people bitch about Nintendo for pulling shit like this, but the fact is, they wouldn't do it if they knew they could pull it off. Damn sheeple.
Quick zephyrs blow, vexing daft Jim.

  9. I LOVE that we have a shitass PacMan collection game for gba for $9.99 which has 4 different versions of PacMan and then we have the craptacular NES PacMan Classic game for $19.99. Am I a bastard for letting people buy the Classic version?

Well it had no advertising, and barely any press in magazines and websites so mainy people either don't know about it or barely paid attention to it.

And I'm sure the fact that it sucks also doesn't have anything to do with it. When I see a no-name game come out with mediocre reviews (most for UtS were between 6 and 7), my interest really doesn't go up.
