Thread: Meet the Fockers

  1. I don't see what the big deal about this movie is.

    Fuck Ben Stiller.

Sorry, not trying to spook you, I mean as far as most of the movies go I'm not a big fan. I enjoy more off the wall stuff like Kids in the Hall, In Living Color, Old School Eddie Murphy, and Richard Pryor stand up stuff. I just don't normally go to the movies to see a comedy film.

  5. Best comedy = big labowski.

infact, gonna watch it before I go to bed.

    Yep.

I really didn't like the first either. Ben Stiller is the new Adam Sandler, and he hasn't really been funny since Something About Mary. Well, Zoolander was good too.

But when 4 dumbfuck friends call up and want to catch up and hang out by seeing a crappy 10 dollar movie, it's just what you do. Sometimes.

Anyway this one was bad too. But for serious criticism, I'd say the first one was maybe a touch funnier overall, but this one was a better watch because the characters are interesting and they do a good job. It's a lot more serious than the first, with less actual jokes, and the humour doesn't really pick up until the last 20 minutes or so. Maybe 4 laughs in the beginning and another 4 or 5 at the end. Maybe.

Unless you laugh at Ben getting kicked in the face, headbutted in the face, falling on his face, etc..

It's almost more family drama than comedy. You'll know almost every joke before it happens, and if you're like me you'll piss all your friends off by delivering the punchlines minutes in advance. The best comedic moments (other than the payoff from the dramatic buildups in the end) are the sudden verbal and physical one-liners you can't predict.

I was upset a bit about how the whole movie, though it used exaggerated characters, portrayed realistic family problems and drama and then broke from quasi-realism to deliver the hollywood happy ending. Jack breaks down and becomes, as I annoyingly spat out a minute before the movie, "Fockerized." I don't know why it upset me. Rule #1 of comedy, and of most of Hollywood, is it has to have a happy unrealistic ending. <shrug>

I hope the Life Aquatic is good or else I'll stop seeing new movies. I'll just go keep seeing the Incredibles over and over in the discount theaters when I need something to do.

Agreed. He's less funny than Adam Sandler, and Adam Sandler got a lot worse of late. About when Ben Stiller started making movies.

Maybe Jews have lost their comedic power. I hope Spaceballs the Sequel won't follow the trend.

    IBTN.

I saw this movie with some of my buddies on Saturday and I thought it was better then the first one. The humor was really dry in some spots and plain obscene in other ones but these are the types of humor that I find the funniest. I guess you could say this movie isn't for everyone but I laughed plenty of times.
