I read the beginning of Preacher many years ago, but never finished. Suddenly, I've having an urge to go pick it up again.

Do so. It's really an amazing read. Sure, it turns to shit in the very end, but what a great ride it is getting there.

Actually, it was by Segasoft, if I remember, which is a different company, only partly owned by Sega (for some reason).

  4. I finished Batman: The Killing Joke yesterday, it was darker than I expected. I can't believe they got away with it; in 1988 no less! The art was awesome, this guy really knows how to do facial expressions. I started Preacher and I am digging it so far.

People get shot in the oddest ways in Preacher. Like, they'll be missing jaws and shit.

Killing Joke was written by Alan Moore, if you dug it you should check out some of his other stuff. I think all of Top 10 has been released in two TPBs, and I can't recommend that enough.

I wouldn't say Preacher is a MUST read, but it's pretty good. It feels like Ennis sometimes tries a little too hard to be OMG shocking, even at the expense of the story. It's good times, though.

MUST reads are Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Gaiman's Sandman, and Moore's own masterwork Watchmen.

Really, only 3 names you need to know to read the best comics out there: Alan Moore, Frank Miller, and Neil Gaiman. Buy everything they've done, no matter the character, no matter the company, and you're set.

PS - I might have said some of this before in the thread, but whatever, I'm not reading it again and neither are you.

Bull, Moore's masterwork is without a doubt From Hell.

Can you fucking believe I've read almost everything of Moore's BUT From Hell? I am such a poser tool I can't even say if you're wrong or right. Fucking thing costs like $30 though.

  8. You mean the TPB? Yeah that's a meaty volume. I've got all the issues (which are really a whole lot better because the cover artwork for each is fucking outstanding) and the original TPB (before the movie edition). It's worth the scratch because it's a great story. Just buy it.

There's a website that counts the number of grievous head-wounds per issue.

And if I recall correctly, Gamefan LOVED that Scud game.

I have those 4 that First Comics published. I know the series continued afterwards, but I don't think they were any more collected editions :*[
