Thread: I would like to compare this PSP debate to the GC and Xbox debate

Is that true or just speculation?

I can't see how releasing one handheld as a "holdover" and then coming out with another one shortly after is a smart business move. It's not necessary, and people will definitely not buy both. They'll probably just get fed up, too.
Well that's like, your opinion, man.

  2. Well, I can't imagine Nintendo releasing a GBA 2 for a least a year, and that would only be if the DS is absolutely slaughtered by PSP. Sony very well could kill both the DS and GBA with one system, which makes me rather sad in some ways.

  3. In reality, I don't care about handhelds enough to care about who wins what.

  4. PSP vs. DS is just like PS vs. N64. Back in the day, I picked up a PS over a 64, but I got my PS way after launch, when they stopped breaking down in a week. And I did the same thing with my PS2, just got that a week after E3 2004.

And even though I bought my DS at launch, I'm not saying I made a wise choice, or a stupid choice, and I'm not gonna base my choice on numbers or graphically awesome games. You guys say it had a shitty launch line up? What didn't? I haven't seen a good launch line up since the SNES days. The 64 would be up there if it wasn't saved by only Mario 64. Also, I've never had the chance before to buy a system at launch, and I think I made the better choice to buy a DS at launch than a PSP. None of my Nintendo systems have broken down when I bought them new. And I dread the day my PS2 breaks down on me.

Graphics? Could care less. Yeah, RR looks like shit on a DS. But I don't like racing games anyways, so the argument is null to me. But PSP does get the advantage since I think it might be able to pull off some 2D stuff better. Or period.

DS is clunky? Throw an extra screen on a PSP, see if you think it's not clunky. And if you feel uncomfortable holding it up with one hand you have the strength of a five-year-old girl.

My decision came down to the fact that I wanted to get my DS purchase done with, because I konw I'll enjoy the games that'll start rolling in next year, and I'm confident in the fact that Nintendo puts out decently put together products.

I want to own a PSP just as much as I want a DS, but Sony's history of system breakdowns makes me afraid to pick one up at launch. I'm gonna have to wait three years until I'm confident enough.
    All is well.

  5. Kuro, hurry up and apply for Fight Club access. I just realised you passed 200 posts.

    here.

So if PSP gets an edge on DS, it's coming in 2006.

...so? There are ass-ugly games on every system you could name. They're not indicitive of the system's capabilities. The fact that Asphalt, an N-Gage port and a launch title still looks better than Ridge Racer should clue you in that RR is an ugly game because the devs were lazy, not because of any inherant fault with the DS.

Aware that it can happen to everyone, but isn't it better to make the list of upcoming games a bigger motivation to buying a console than how likely it is to break. Every console is made durable enough, and Playstation 2's aren't as frail as everyone says.
