How the fuck do I do a "Harmonic Combo"?
So, I just beat it. And I must say, it was a nice ride. I don't know if I'd say it was better than KOTOR or not, but it's close. I think it ended the story better than either KOTOR, and that's just having done it Open Palm (good guy). There were some great surprises in the game that weren't so cliche that I picked up on them immediately. Also, you wouldn't believe how many freaking voice actors there are in this game, and not just the usual Cam Clarke & Friends either. I'm talking - Simon Templeton (a.k.a. Kain from Legacy of Kain) and John Cleese (Monty Python / Fawlty Towers).
Ask her first what it would take to convince her that her son was dead, then ask what she remembers about her child. Then tell her you've found her child's grave (the option should be there by now, if not exit the dialogue and read the gravestones over then go back to her) and pick the right one. If you can't remember which, it's the kid who was named after his uncle, which she elludes to in her dialogue.Originally Posted by Master of 7s

in the descriptions of arts there are listings of an art either initiating or finishing a harmonic combo, you simply have to hit with the hard hit(the x button strike) of the initiating style, this will cause a status efffect on the enemy, you then shift to the concluding art and hit with a hard hit(x) in the concluding art. usually they are initiated by magics or support arts and finished by martial arts. they are simply one hit kills, but since they rely on status anomolies they dont work on ghosts, demons, golems and anyone immune to status effects, also they supposedly dont work on key characters, since they instantly and messily kill the character and that would mess up dialogue and balance.Originally Posted by Korly
and yes, i copped out and looked on gamefaqs, there really wasnt a good description in the game or manual.
EDIT: and im on 10 hours and still loving this game, heres a thought, could you imagine a kotor game done like this? i can honeslty say that bioware did a masterful job with this game from a mechanics perspective and i hope that this games mechanics get ripped off right and left, because they are great for the game style.

I don't think I did a harmonic combo the entire game, and just in case anyone was wondering I clocked in at around 25-30 hours (it was somewhere inbetween there, I'm not at home so I can't double-check) and that was doing as many side-quests as I could.
Even then, I don't think I unlocked even half of the flyer mini-game missions. Yet, whenever they were made available to me I took them. I guess there are others that are only available to people who go the Closed Fist route at certain key points.
Oh, to anyone else that's poised to beat it, be sure to listen as the credits are rolling and you'll hear some funny shit.

Gozen, did you beat everyone in the arena in Chapter 3? I had no trouble up to the last guy & he is seeming really impossible. I think I'm gonna have to level up more & put some more points into focus to take this guy out.

Yeah, I beat The Ravager. It wasn't easy, he's intensely harder than anyone leading up to him. Here's how I did it;
Okay, when you fight The Ravager you have to understand three things; 1.) His fast attack is very powerful and if he hits you once odds are he's going to complete the combo, 2.) His defense is insane. Even my fully leveled, chi-powered Dragon Sword wasn't doing any real damage to him, 3.) He heals himself if you let him fade back for too long. Sometimes as much as half of his life bar.
The best way I've found to beat him is to keep blocking until he looks like he's about to do a fierce attack. His animation for doing this is long and slow, giving you plenty of time to roll to the side and lay into him. When you do attack, hit him in Focus mode with your best style powered by chi. Try to do as much damage to him as you can before he gets back into his rhythm. Be sure to have the Spirit Thief style equipped so you can hang back and revitalize yourself if the fight drags on (which it most likely will). I'm not sure about support styles like Paralyzing Palm or Heavenly Wave, but try them just in case. If you can hit him with Paralyzing Palm and it work, then alternate between hitting him with that and your strongest attacks. Whatever you do, don't just let him roll away after he's taken a lot of damage or he WILL heal most of it back.

This is the last time I get something off the internet. It hasn't arrived yet. If I'm not playing this by Wednesday I will bid the internet good day.

I'm talking about Kai the Serpent after the Ravager. He is pulling some evil shit on me. I can get him down to his last two increments of life without getting hit, or using magic or Focus, but once you get him there, the goes transparent, & it says Channeling over his head. He summons two really powerful Horse demons. I can manage to not get hit by their immolation fireballs, but still, I take fire damage from them every time I hit them, even using weapons. Just from the slow tick damage, I'm not able to beat both of them, I run out of focus first, then magic from healing, then I end up dying before I can get the last HD's last little bar of health.
