Thread: NTSC PS2 games with RGB lockout?

  1. NTSC PS2 games with RGB lockout?

This person, right, says that he gets the green screen treatment when he tries to play a US copy of MGS: Snake Eater in RGB. Have Sony started putting an RGB lockout in their games? Is this common knowledge and I'm the last to know?

  2. That's news to me. I play DVD movies in RGB on my version 5 without any problem.

Well for DVDs I have to use the region X to eliminate RGB green screen, but the new small PS2s don't work with the F#%^&& disc so I need a new solution for DVDs. But for games, usually either they work or they don't, green screen means he is getting RGB just needs to switch some settings...

Did he switch it to RGB from component in the setup menu? If he did, then damned if I know, they could lock out RGB but that would be lame if they did...if it was truly locked it wouldn't work at all, like on the DC a few games are locked out of RGB mode and don't boot at all, so this sounds like a different problem...maybe he can boot with an RGB disc thing like the region X device...

I have yet to find a PSX or PS2 game that doesn't work in RGB and only a couple on the DC that do not work.

  4. Aye, he's getting green screen. He gets a black and white picture on a PAL TV in composite (that's normal) then a green screen when he switches to RGB. How do you usually get around that?

AFAIK Sony has always locked out RGB on DVD movies, but not games.

Tell him he needs to change his RGB output from Y-Cr-Cb (component) to RGB in the Options menu. It should work fine.
