Thread: Sam Jackson just says "Hell No!"

  1. Sam Jackson just says "Hell No!"

This just proves that Samuel Jackson is just too cool.Either that or he's a pompous cock. I'm going with the former though.

Apparently Samuel Jackson was offered a role to star in a movie by a director he looked up to Jim Sheridan ( I've never heard of him...), until he found out he would be starring opposite to rapper 50 Cent.

"If you do that, it sanctions the fact that these people come into this world and you think they are worthy of you sharing your time on screen with them. I don't particularly think that.

"A month or so ago, someone called me about the 50 Cent movie and I'm like, 'What are you calling me for?' I don't even need to read that because that's not something I want to do.

"I like listening to 50 Cent and I can groove to his music but I don't want to groove to him on screen, just yet. Maybe if he does five movies and he shows some talent.

"I mean how does he get to work with Jim Sheridan and I don't. What is it about 50 Cent that makes Jim Sheridan say, 'I'd really like to make a movie with him.'"
He is right in a way. The only way 50 got the role is probably because how much money he has,and from his name. But still, is Sam saying that hes just too damn good to work with anyone who has no acting experience - I mean you have to start somewhere ,right?

Either that or maybe he's just seen Eminem and DMX in action and just knows better.... what do you guys think?

I think he's right, and he's earned the right to be picky about his roles by now.

  3. I think that he believes it's unfair someone that's headlining something because of a skill set that doesn't automatically translate well into something else. In this case, that something else is something that he has worked hard all his life for, adn for a rapper to get to that standing automatically is lame.

I don't think he minds acting alongside someone who is just starting out, but he does mind being put behind someone who is just starting out but is only there because of other endeavors.

I just made a lot of sense with that awesome post.

This really hits the nail on the head here. I agree with Jackson, personally. Musicians rarely make the transition from music to acting, and really, vice versa as well. It can be a huge risk. For every musician that does make the translation, there are tons that dont. I mean, look at Mick Jagger, Mariah Carey, and DMX.

It just sucks that there are tons of actors that could be totally perfect for the part, acting in shit films their entire career, but just becuase 50 cent raps, he gets the part over them, despite the fact that he has never acted in his life.

  7. SAMUEL L. WAS RIGHT.

  8. I'm a firm believer in Do one thing and do it well. I don't understand why musicians think that because they're good at music, they will instantly be good at acting as well. It sounds like hes trying to say that although 50 cent has paid his dues in the music world, he hasn't paid any dues in the acting world and doesn't deserve to work along side actors that have busted their asses to master their craft.

It's a cash grab, plain as day. When someone is famous and hugely popular studios and script writers will try to capitalize on it with the hopes of the legions of music fans jumping onto the project. Britney Spears tried it, that singer tried it with Glitter (I forget her name), Madonna tried it and at the height of American Idol popularity Kelly and that other guy tried it and it has never really worked.

The exception to the rule was Eminem. I heard 8 Mile was a good movie too, so that could probably atest to why it was successful. I think that's why Samuel L. Jackson said to come back in 5 movies. He doesn't want to work with the flavor of the month, he wants to share screen time with someone who deserves to share screen time with him, as an actor, not as a fad.

Here's thinking that the new movie 50 Cent is to star in has something to do with gangster life and guns.

  10. Jackson has said in the past that he'd refuse to work with rappers trying to be movie stars.
