Thread: G4TechTV drops TechTV name, adds shitty new shows

  1. I got to talk to Cliff at E3 last year and play some Unreal Championship 2 with him. He's an alright dude and seemed a lot cooler that I gave him credit for.

  4. There are no good hosts on G4. You knew the network was going to stink when they announced the name. Gamers for makes absolutely no sense. It sounds like some sort of virtual golf network more than anything. The name TechTV was such a dead ringer because it was catchy, the logo was memorable and it offered something no other network did. I account most of the failure to crappy management rather than crummy material.

The Screensavers, Extended Play, Call for Help and Fresh Gear with Sumi Das more than made its existence worthwhile. There are no shows on G4 that I like to watch. Not that it matters anyway, since everytime I turn the thing on it's Robot fucking wars.

They are also launching some new shows, one of which is called girls gone wired. I guess they have judges sit around and rate how hot pretend girls are. Here’s a quote from their press release:

"Our audience interacts with digital girls as much as real girls and we're tapping into that fantasy," commented Laura Civiello, Vice President of Acquisitions and Development for G4. "'Girls Gone Wired' is the first pageant of its kind on television with contestants competing for titles like "Hottest Newcomer," "Sexiest Voice" and "Most Likely to Kick Enemy Ass."

I think that the idea of a television channel that focuses on videogames and technology is an exciting one. Obviously there is a lot of potential for some quality shows on a channel like that. I think that’s why people dislike G4 so much. It’s not just because the stuff they make is so bad. There are plenty of bad television shows on every channel. It’s the fact that they are wasting all that potential, and that’s what is so disappointing.
    GO G4!

Kevin Pereira's pretty awesome actually, but he's wasted on what they usually put him in. Arena's a bad idea for a show in the first place, and he seems more a gamer than a tech guy so he just goes through the paces on Screen Savers.

He shone when he co-hosted Pulse with Patrick Clark, they had a great kinda straight man/ wacky man, Abbot & Costello-style rapport... but that lasted about 2 weeks before they replaced him as a co-host with a horrible girl with no sense of timing and the worst reading-straight-from-a-script delivery I've ever seen and demoted him to an uninspired color commentary on the tail end of the show.

Adam Sessler and Tommy Tallarico were the only good hosts. I wasn't a big fan or Morgan Webb, but I have a picture of her in her underwear on my wall.

  9. I don't like Tommy Tallarico, or Judgment Day. He rated the DS spiderman game an 8.5 out of ten. Now, i never played that game, but i'm pretty sure it sucks. Then he always ends up giving games like Paper Mario 5.0 or something, just because he hates turn-based games. i don't understand why he's rating games, anyway. rating video games is about giving a game a grade based on how good it is, not on how much you, as an individual liked it. Then they make that other guy give all the games good ratings because it seems like it balances things out, but it just gives you two vastly different grades and leaves you with nothing to rely on. G4, if you have brains in your heads, leave the game ratings to Xplay.

funny how i remember Tommy's name and not the other guy. 'course, i hate them both, but it's funny nonetheless.

EDIT: you know, i think i like watching judgment day just so i can get all angry about stuff. they could use a gaming show like that, where they deliberately use annoying hosts and rate bad games good just to make you all angry. it'll be a smash hit, just like Filter.

You're wrong. Read IGN or any gaming mag lately? The reviews are just opinions of the people assigned to write them. That's the way it is. Sometimes these publications have the bright idea to assign editors to the task that actually like the kind of game being reviewed, but it's really hit-or-miss. Don't take them too seriously.
