I can't imagine amateurs can sell their work for much until they start approaching professional quality work. Before that, you have to accept that you won't make a lot of money... or you know a lot of people that don't mind doing you a favor. I sold a painting once for $100 a few years ago, not because it was awesome, but because my mom's friend wanted to be nice. So I threw away or gave away pretty much almost all of my work from last year.
I'd pay 20 dollars for a print of the girl walking on the bridge.

and 25-30 for the mushroom one.

  2. If I go ahead with the project in a few months, I'll probably put some prints up for sale. Not right now though, but thanks for saying it anyways. boosted my confidence a bit.

Depending what kind of paint and how big the tubes of paint were, it can go from $5-30. I just bought some oil paint for $6-13 200ml size (largest size) and they were on sale!

As for the canvas, I just made my own. Bought some heavy duty stretcher bars (36" x 36"). Each wooden stretcher bar is about $10-15. Thats about $40-60 for 4. Bought mine for $6 each ($24 total)

Since I made it myself and stretched it myself, it was alot cheaper. If he bought it pre-stretched and primed already...it will cost alot more.

Galkid is about $9 for a 8oz and price of Gesso can vary depending on brand and size. A bucket probably would cost $10-30.

He could of probably gotten more money or people to look at it if he fixed the name of the auction to "Cat Dog Star Wars Oil Painting Paint" instead of "Surreal Oil Painting"

I got the wood from there..I was going to go to the one by SVA the day of the snowstorm but I got relieved late and just went home. Luckily I called and they didnt have it. I usually go to the Pearl in LI (Farmingdale). All I have to do is just drive and drive back. Dont have to lug around the stuff. But most of the stuff I mentioned above was bought at the one in LI.

Pearl seems to be overpriced, but they do have great selection.

You think Pearl is overpriced? Go to Jerry's Artarama on Union Turnpike in Queens, NY. Now that is overpriced. For those in NYC area and who buy art supplies, I heard they are going out of business sometime around June.
