Yea, lets use 20 minutes, stop the flow of the film, and explain WHY this guy is here, and shit. Then you all would complain about the "pacing", or some other stupid shit. Some things just arent meant to be picked up on by the average joe. Subtle, comic book geek shit like that is not important to the average movie-goer. All they wanna see is this "Venom" their kid is yammering about kick Spidey's red and blue ass.

The pacing was fine for this, aswell. I dont feel like I "missed" something. There wasnt anything "forced", is what I'm saying.

Good flick. 2 thumbs up. Awaiting that DVD.

    Fucking whining, Venom-cocksucking bitches...

    Waaah, more Venom!

    FUCK VENOM.

The film was awesome. As a cinematic masterpiece, it's a step down from Spider-Man 2, but as a comic book movie, this shits all over everything except, again, SM2.

Screen time was appropriate for all parties involved. The underlying theme of choices was fully realized, despite the TONS of action in the film, which by the way, was much more spectacular than anything in SM2, with perhaps the exception of Doc Ock's arms gaining sentience in the operating room. There were some radical coincidences, but hey, IT'S A COMIC BOOK MOVIE! Shit like this happens in the funnybooks every week! Can't believe people are faulting a comic book movie for doing comic book shit (and doing it well)...

    There were a few groan-inducing moments, however;

1 - Harry's butler revealing what he knew about Norman. That happens in comics too, but it's as groan-inducing in the comics as it was here.

2 - I didn't mind giant Sandman (expected it, really), but why does he howl and roar like a monster when he's a giant? He should be fully capable of speech, in any form. All he did was make Hanna Barbera Godzilla sounds.

3 - the whole flying away at the end... I can understand riding the wind currents, but this was flying

4 - Is it me or did Sandman get away with all his crimes? The shooting was an accident, but was the gun registered? He was on the run from a bank robbery, after all... where's the money from those other bank robberies committed in the film?

5 - Lack of Spider-sense in some instances... wth? Glad Raimi remembered it in time for the grenade toss...

Sandman and Venom weren't in the film alot, but they didn't needed to be. If the film focused on just one of the villains (and Harry, of course), then perhaps more screentime would be necessary. But how much depth and backstory can you add to a thief and a crappy symbiote in a 2-hr movie? Gwen and Capt. Stacy didn't NEED to be in this. It's for the fans. Do they ruin anything? No. For all this movie contained, I think the character development and interrelationships were handled phenomenally, despite some rough edits here and there.

Really, just what else did people want to see Venom do? Terrorize MJ? Show up everywhere Peter is, just to fuck with him? No big loss, and not much of an addition. Raimi had a choice to take it or leave it. I think he made the right choice, considering there were 2 other villains to work with and still drive the theme of choices along. I really don't think the film suffers in any way from the omittance of these occurances, since he wasn't such a deep character to begin with. He was created to be a dark Spider-Man, in an age when EVERYTHING was was becoming dark and gritty. Now he eats brains...

I wish the movie had left Venom for the next film, introducing him only at the very end of SM3, this way I could skip it entirely. Raimi didn't want Venom. The fanboys did. Any shoe-horning, bloated plotlines, lack of characterization and/or screentimes they think this movie suffers is because of them.

The thing with some Venom fanboys is, they can't get enough. He's in SM3, most likely will be in SM4, then they'll want to see Carnage. Then the other 5 off-shoots. And then Toxin. They'll run this symbiote crap so far into the ground, satan himself will be pleading for it to stop. Just like they did when he was first introduced. He's a horrible, perpetually drooling, shit-for-brains, one-note, WAY past his prime, pathetic character now, thanks to them (and Erik Larsen), and still they crave more.

Be careful what you ask for; you just may get it.

Unlike all these modern, up-to-date guys like The Green Goblin, Doc Ock and Sandman.

wtf are you talking about? Larsen hasn't had anything to do with Venom in years.

    I sure hope so.

And I'm the offspring. That's why I hate that motherfucker. But still, it's better than you and your dad tossing symbiote salad.

Yup. They're still cool. Glad you noticed.

Yes, and that's when the damage was done. Larsen gave Venom that idiotic sidewalk-dragging tongue, the inability to say boo without showering the other person with gallons of spit like the retard Steve Martin played in 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels', and it was Larsen who started all that eating brains bullshit.

All the shit that made him cool way back then, he doesn't even do anymore, so what's the appeal?

and it was Larsen who started all that eating brains bullshit.
Actually, the eating brains thing started with Mark Bagley.

  8. Yeah I was actually REALLY a fan of Franco by the end of this movie. I wasn't sure if it was just the fact that I liked his character from the comics as well, but I thought his acting was great, so smug.

Although I question his mask. I don't care if people wear masks or not, but I think there was all of 2 seconds of his mask, whats the point?
