Thread: Yoshi's Touch & Go

  1. It's great, actually. The game scales the difficulty to the skill of the player, meaning it only needs the one level. If you start off weak then it's level-1 easy, if you start off kicking ass then it's going to damn well kick back. I don't need a pre-arranged structure to enjoy a game, I just need something new and fun. Yoshi has provided this with every game so far, although admitted that's still under a dozen.

Stupid but true- I couldn't play this on the bus on the way home from work because the sound of the bus engine kicked in the "blow away clouds" feature. I think I need a quieter bus.

Great game anyway, I'll be playing this for a while.

  2. I'm with James. Although now after spending the better part of today with it, I'm eating abit of crow. I do wish it at least had boss battles. That could have been amazing and bosses alone would have added major punch to the game. Imagine a boss chasing you or spitting projectiles while you frantically work the stylus trying to hit it or avoid it all while trying to earn points? It's not the "same level repeatedly" though, I think that's taking it a bit far. The environments and terrain definitely change and provide enough random variation to keep you sweating bullets. The jumping moles and pirahna plants are the worst to deal with so far and kick the diff up a big notch.

Still a lot of fun, it's a blast trying to figure out new areas to exploit with your stylus in order to string better combos. Just an hour ago I finally cleared 3,000 points on marathon and earned challenge level.

I'd say Shane B's score of 7.5 in EGM was dead on.

  3. After 24 hours and a lot more thought, I think Tezuka needs to be taken off future Yoshi/2D games (that said, I still am enjoying the game as a wonderful scoring challenge). His direction/producing duties under Miyamoto on Yoshi's Island were awesome. But ever since the reigns were fully handed over to him on Yoshi's Story, he has over simplified the series more and more and this just feels like he isn't putting much effort into it. Or his heart isn't in it anymore.

I mean, how long could this game have taken to make? It's still a lot of fun but couldn't they have easily beefed the game up with more content like bosses at least as I said before. What other games for GB/DS or GC has Tezuka worked on? Anyone know? Just curious.

  4. That's pretty much what I was expecting. People would like it for a day or so, but a week after release totally forget it even exists.

Thanks, Neo. Got it bookmarked now.

Man, not that I'm surprised, but after looking at his roster it hits home at how he has not only been producer but directed so many great games. I feel a little humbled/bad now for talking down on him. Still, he should look at his SMW heritage a bit more when constructing a game such as TnG IMHumbleO.

  7. And now, I really like the game again. This game is really addictive in a manipulative and subtle way I gotta say.

Don't post in this thread for like a week, then tell us what you think.

  9. Alrighty.

  10. I want my money back. This game is so under developed that I'm not sure it qualifies as a game under todays standards. Nintendo has screwed up the last two Yoshi games. They've got to know we all want a proper sequel to YI, but we get this crap instead. TnG is fun for a few minutes (and it sounds great) at a time but I suggest anyone who is interested in it either rent it or wait till you can get it for $15 or less. This should've been included as a mini game in Mario DS cause thats all it really is.
