Thread: 2005 Oscar Noms

  1. Tom Cruise is a super nice guy from all the interviews I have seen and how he treats fans on the red carpet. PLUS, he has saved like 3 peoples live. He fucking RAN into a flaming building and pulled a woman out of it. He also pulled a guy from a wrecked car. And like gave a woman CPR. I am not making any of this up by the way, the guy is awesome.
    Barf! Barf! Barf!

  2. Yeah, but he's a Sciencetologist.

People hate Tom Cruise but love his movies.
    I did like Mission: Impossible...

I have nothing against Tom Cruise. He just gets little credit, because he's a highly paid actor, who plays in blockbuster written films. Sure, his acting wasn't all that great in his early years, but movies like Far and Away and Born on the 4th of July, showed that he can portray believable characters, when the role demands it.

Actors like Gibson and Eastwood have yet to win an Oscar with thier acting roles, but have done so with directing instead.

  4. I saw Million Dollar Baby and it really is an amazing film, its certainly far far far better than Eternal Sunshine and well probably better than the other noms. I didnt see any of them.

WRT Jamie Foxx... yea his impersonation is dead-on, but shouldnt there be more to it all? Its kind of like how playing a retard will get you a nomination no questions asked.

11 out of 17. Not too bad. About 65% accuracy. Which would have been failing when I was in school, but pretty good if you're in school in Canada.

Last of the Mohicans totally rocked. Actually, the majority of these movies were really good. I wish Daniel Day-Lewis made more movies than he does.

  7. The Unbearable Lightness of Being was an excellent film as well... and you know who is another actor who doesn't recieve much props? Jeremy Irons. Low profile actor who won best actor once and yet still doesn't get that level of respect accredited to him, then again - he doesn't make popular shit movies.

Ok - million dollar baby (god I hate typing that out, what a dumb fucking title) won best picture, was kinda hoping it would go to the Aviator but meh... it was nice to see Leonardo DiCaprio and J. Depp nominated for best actor, but Foxx's win was no suprise. BTW in my opinion the worst film ever to get best picture was "Gladiator", even ebert called that one out.

Yea, I was really looking to see Johnny Depp win but seeing who his competition was and the other choices made by the academy it came as no surprise to see Jamie Foxx win. Million Dollar Baby is a stupid title. Scorsese got cheated, despite the other awards The Aviator won. I was glad to see Morgan Freeman get an oscar. He deserves one IMO since that was his first and he is a fine actor with many years behind him in the field.

  9. Ryan was a pretty cool short. Saw it at the Black Maria Film Festival.

    Glad it won an Oscar.

  10. How is Million Dollar Baby a bad title? Just because you use italics?

Have you seen the movie? She was his... million dollar baby... as in she kind of replaced his daughter that he lost touch with.

Anyways, we had an oscar pool at the mall I work at and I apparently won it with 18/24 of the awards right. I missed out on the short film live action, short film animation, ... but I cleaned up on most of the rest. Pretty sweet.
I thought Aviator would get the Best Picture nod but it didn't which was a pretty neat surprise because I thought both Aviator and Million Dollar Baby were great movies.
I just thought that maybe the Academy would give 1 award to each of the big 3 movies of last yea. Good surprise to me.
Clint Eastwood winning Best Director was great. He deserves it. He was/is an awesome actor and he directs very well also. He just knows so much about film and respects it.

Fun year at the Oscars, not a lot of big names were there though. No Jim Carrey, Tom Hanks, Nicole Kidman, Tom Cruise etc etc etc. Basically everyone Chris Rock praised was not there.
