Thread: New MTV2

  1. New MTV2

MTV2 has been advertising that during the Half-Time show of the Super Bowl they were going to reveal some "World changing news for Music Television" And what they aired was a long birrage of a clips or what appeard to be random things and video clips.

But whats happening is that MTV is putting a new coat of paint on MTV2 apparently, its not all in effect yet (a bunch of shows don't start till March 11th). But I guess they are going to put more focus on videos and stuff thats not played all that often. Oh, and they appear to be weirding up the hell out of it.

New MTV2 went into effect at 12 Midnight Eastern, so now the new logo is in the corner (two headed dog), and the videos have a new Info bar rather than the age old white text in the corner. Now its colored bars with the info in the middle of the screen. Also, in an attempt to kind of bring back those weird cartoons MTV used to show inbetween videos MTV2 is showing absolutly random stuff.

For example I have been watching it for about an hour now and have seen things like this between videos
    - A Clip from Toxic Avenger
    - Female Roller Derby
    - A clip of a subway tunnel, but with a huge link of sasueges as the Subway train
    - A growling burlap bag with teeth, just growling for a bit
    - A Clip from the Battle Arena Toshienden Anime
    - A video of a guy showing how to tie a neck tie

The new shows however arn't really anything that you would'nt expect from current MTV. Like a show hosted by the dude from Simple Plan where he gets kids parents to play pranks on their kids, some show about Welsh skateboarders. But then there is some show thats like a twisted Seaseme Street, with these weird looking puppets.

As a person who loved the original MTV2 (literally nothing but videos 24 hours a day) I am hoping this change will lead more twords that. But I don't really see that happening since shows get better ratings than just videos. But this kind of seems like that. But overall it seems like they are just copying FUSE.

    Barf! Barf! Barf!

  2. Whatever happened to music channels just showing music videos? It'll be a truly sad day when the only MTV channel still devoted to its original purpose is like Video Musicales or whatever the hell the Spanish version is called.

AND WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO HEADBANGER'S BALL?!
    Time for a change

lol, mtv just can't stand to play just videos, anywhere.

  4. MTV Hits plays nothing but music vids from what I've seen. The catch is that they don't play many good music videos.

  5. headbangers ball is on saturdays 10pm-midnight.

    I like having 24/7 videos.

  6. This does seem like a rip off Fuse. It's funny though that Fuse is basically copying the old mtv motto.

I hoe they don't do their own version of Video IQ. I hate that show.

  7. I remember watching Aeon Flux when I was like, nine.
I was constantly sitting in a haze of WTF.
"Why do they look so skinny? Do all normal people look that skinny?"
And, I saw the last episode before any others.
    Now, that was a trip.
"What is that in the rocket?"
Then, Beavis and Butt-head came on, and I tried not to laugh to hard, so my parents wouldn't hear me.
    OMG <3 4EVA
Scourge:Azumanga Daioh is exactly the same thing as Ninja Scroll.
    buttcheeks: High school so weird

  8. We now need an MTV undergournd or something so that they will play nothing but videos. They can have hours devoted to one certain year of music and play a sort of random mix of stuff from that year. Id watch that.

That's what MTV3 will be for.
    R.I.P. Paragon Studios

  10. There is like an MTVU or something they play in one of the dining halls on my campus. It is pretty much all News and videos. I saw the new Mars Volta video in there the other day, and have seen Interpol, The Thermals, Scissor Sisters and other just below the surface type bands.
