Thread: Metroid Pinball

  1. Super Famicom

I'm tempted to say something about how folk thought Metroid Prime was gonna be a pile... but damn, even if this does turn out good... Shit, Metroid+Pinball=Wrong...

  2. Does it really matter to what theme a pinball game is? I mean... pinball is pinball I go to an arcade and there's fucking star trek pinball and dinosaur pinball, nothing wrong with samus pinball.

    except Sonic Spinball heh...

  3. Pinball + unlikely licences = PINBALL!
You whiny dorks! Sometimes you just amaze me with the amount of stupidity that comes out on these boards! Have you ever even played a pinball game? Real pinball ,God rest it's soul, had games based on everything from Porky's to Terminator. There is no wrong franchise for pinball!

Does anyone remember the name of that Nintendo themed real pinball machine? I played it a few times in the early '90s but I don't know what it's called.

I used to think so too... but something just feels wrong in my core about this. And I really haven't played many pinball franchises I didn't like- Motley Crue,House of the Dead, Satan himself, but something about this that I can't explain really bothers me.
To boldly go where lots of men have gone before...

Except this most likely won't be pinball with a Metroid theme. It will be "the Metroid experience" crammed onto a pinball table. Sometimes this works (Kirby's Pinball Land, Pokemon Pinball) and sometimes it doesn't (Mario Pinball, Sonic Spinball), but I seriously doubt this is just going to be a straightfoward pinball game.

Besides, I don't think this came into being because they wanted to make a pinball game and tried to think of a theme for it. More likely, they were trying to think of another way to sell Metroid and came up with this.

  8. So how long til Zelda Pinball? >blech<

I played the old silverball, before arcade videogames became reality. I've seen many a license become a pinball table and for the most part, they've done an excellent job of incorporating the 2 together. There have been moments, when this idea didn't go so well, but I can see good things coming from this license. The morphball in a pinball environment seems fitting. I just hope they use it, in a manner that doesn't damage the Metroid brandname.

Well, there was a Super Mario Bros table. Somehow I don't think that's what you're referring to, though, and I can't recall any other ones.

    That's not the point.

Much like I was saying in their announcement of Mario Baseball or DDR mit Mario, it is completely self-contradictory for Nintendo to spout shit like this:
In the past 20 years the world of the video games has seen a linear progression/expansion all the time. In other words the more beefed up technologies and functionalities have enabled the game publishers to realize more beautiful graphics and more gorgeous game contents.

Because that kind of expansion was simply going on until quite recently, those who are doing business in this industry somehow believed that this kind of formula would always bring us the bright future.

But Nintendo, for one, has a different idea. Nintendo believes that that kind of successful formula has reached a saturation point. So that is why Nintendo is going to take a different approach – and for Nintendo, taking such a different approach is something taken for granted. But probably for those who have seen the past succesful formula as valid, maybe they see how Nintendo approaches the issue as something alienating.
and simultaneously feel comfortable in green-lighting yet another derivative, non-innovative and practically non-different franchise spinoff that nobody was really asking for.

With every press release Nintendo insists that all other companies are stuck in a rut and only They possess the magic solution of the future; at the same fucking time with this release they are no better than the other companies and particularly in the other games I cited earlier, they are in fact supporting other companies to stay in this so-called rut.
