Thread: Tom Yum Goonng (aka The Protector)

  1. Whoa Tom Yum Goonng (aka The Protector)

There is a new Tony Jaa flick coming out...or is out in Asia. This is done once again by the same director and stars Tony Jaa(of course)

I'm expecting big things out of this after Ong-Bak. You can Check a trailer Tom Yun Goong Here, but they are short.

  2. there are a couple clips in there where you can tell it's going to be just as good (and hopefully better) than Ong Bak.

    Tony Jaa is the man.

  4. Goddamn he can get some serious air. Can't wait for this movie!

TONY JAA: It’s called Tom-Yum-Goong, it’s not actually the sequel to Ong-Bak. But, I guess you could call it a sequel because Ong-Bak talks about Thai culture through Buddhism, while through while Tom-Yum-Goong talks about Thai culture through the history of elephants in Thailand.

SEANBABY: Is there lots of Muay Thai in it?

TONY JAA: There’s definitely a lot of Muay Thai in it, and it’s Muay Thai that involves elephants, which is used in war times.

retroCRUSH: What’s an example of how Muay Thai and elephants would be combined?

TONY JAA: The style that you see in Tom-Yum Goong is called Muay Thai Cochisai, where you use the movements of an elephant, like the elephant’s trunk, and moved in with the Muay Thai to become a Muay Thai move.
    I'm totally game.

I just watched this yesterday. It blew me the fuck away.

    Highlights include:
    1) a 10-minute straight uncut fight scene where Jaa battles his way up like 4 stories fight a bunch of motherfuckers all the way to the top (I repeat, ZERO CUTS, all in one complete take)

    2) Tony Jaa breaks the limbs of like 30 people for 5 minutes. I think he must've broken a record or something.

    3) Jackie Chan cameo. It sucks though. They basically bump into each other, go into stances and then apologize and walk away.

    4) For no reason some random guy is scolded for buying bootleg DVDs. WTF?

    5) Elephants doing all sorts of crazy shit. I couldn't tell if they were CGI or not but it looks good (albeit silly at times)

So yeah, I liked it better than ONG-BAK. Better story, better fight scenes and no instant replay scenes.
