Heh, I remember thinking that too.

Nah, it's about a Vietnam vet who starts having some really fucked up hallucinations, and some of the cooler scenes in the Silent Hill games were actually lifted almost shot-for-shot from it. It also has the same rusted-fence motif, and the "monsters" he sees have that bizarre quick twitching that Silent Hill 3 used so often. Hell, it even has a "nightmare hospital" scene.

Interesting. Cool that they sticking with the storyline similar to the original SH, and even keeping some of the names from the game. Except for the Cybil being outsider cop, and not the resident of SH.

Actually, Cybil wasn't from SH. She was from Brahms, the next town over.

This one is tough for me. On one hand, I really, really want to see the movie based around characters we know and love. The movie SHOULD be Harry and Lisa and Cybil and Kaufmann and Dahlia, or at the very least James. (Heather wouldn't work because you would need the SH1 backstory in place already.)

On the other hand, if they did that, and the characters weren't exactly how I pictured them being, I know I'd hate it. For example, I don't know why, but I've ALWAYS seen harry as Bill Pullman. So maybe I should be glad that they aren't trying to make it based directly off of one of the games - if it sucked, that would make it even worse.

As long as they really capture the spirit and feeling of the games, and the town itself, that is what matters most. So far, I have far more confidence in this than I did in Resident Evil before it came out. The exception here, of course, is if they screw this up, I'll kill all of the sons of bitches. My only real hesitation so far is the inclusion of Cybil - I think that if you are going to include a character from the game, you should keep them what they were in the game, or don't use them at all. Of course, the storyline explaination here might be a bit misleading - it is entirely possible that Cybil IS from Brahms, and is sent out to find Rose and her daughter because she's in the area that they were last seen, and there's no communication with SH. If something like that is the case, then I have no problem whatsoever. But if she's just going to be some cop from somewhere else, then don't name her the same.

And I hope we get at least one or two locations in the movie that match up with the game - Heaven's Night, for example.

But it's not Harry, and it's a seperate (albiet similar) story. Why does it matter? Besides, I don't want a direct retelling of Silent Hill... I already know how that plot goes.

It matters to me. A lot.

The Ring has a female protagnist.
The Grudge has one as well.
The last like five horror movies that have had at some point a Silent Hill moment, have as well.

I'm just sick, of mother/daugther relationships in current horror movies, and the people writing this script should be smart enought see the cliche thats forming here and the fact that people will go and see this movie completely unaware of the fact that it is based on the material that is responsible for those movies and start calling it a copycat.

There's just no reason for the change in my eyes. Its close enough to Silent Hill 1 from the synopsis to justify it being that.

fuck a female lead. i'm in the same group as YawArmy, i'm done bout tired of all these god damn scripts with male leads just being modified for a female due to this women empowerment bullshit in the industry right now.

this is the story of SH1 to perfection, only swapped out with a female lead and an illness. fuck that shit.

if you're gonna have cybil, put harry in. this is retarded and only gives more script writers an applicable reason to take the male protagonists OUT of good scripts and replace them with women for an easy money solution.

I'm guessing this will be a lot better than the Resident Evil movie - at least I'm hoping it will. Although I now know how the movie ends(thanks a lot), it was probably pretty predictable to begin with anyway. I'm looking foward to it.
