The movie wasn't everything it could have been, but I mean, come on, they could have butchered Silent Hill, and Gans really tried to make something that would be respectful to the series. In that regard, it was a huge success, and when the movie does work, lord alive it works. Hell, I didn't even really have a huge argument with the Sean Bean scenes, even though I understand why Gans didn't want them. The only thing that really bugged me about the film was the cult stuff, which made the story feel crowded compared to how the games have always felt.

Simply put, Hollywood didn't have the guts to allow the movie to be what it really needed to be, so instead we got something that wasn't amazing but did at least make an effort.

I pretty much agree with 'doshi here. Where the movie was on, it was mothefucking ON. But when it wasn't, it basically sucked.

The look and feel, the monsters, the music...all great. The plot, cult, and annoying husband...all bad. I mean, how horrible of a mother did Rose look like? Her kid has mental problems so she ignores everyone, kidnaps her and takes her to some abandoned town with the cops chasing her? That shit was stupid. The cult ruined the movie and hubby was useless, but I understand he was needlessly thrown in at the studio's behest.

Still the best videogame movie ever, however. But since they all suck, that ain't saying much.

I still think the husband was there for the simple fact with his kid and wife gone he would be drawn there as well. Still most of his scenes broke the flow of the movie.

Well, keeping him out of most of the movie would have better set up for a Silent Hill 2 to kick off just like, well, Silent Hill 2. Husband has no idea where his wife and child went, and suddenly one day he gets a letter from his wife telling him she's "waiting" for him in Silent Hill.

Roger Avery, best known for writing parts of Pulp Fiction, winning the Oscar with Quentin Tarantino, then beginning a feud with the director over his script wrote the video game adaptation Silent Hill in 2006 for a film adaptation. French director Christophe Gans provided the spooky atmosphere of the town that was traumatized by occultist activity and the flick managed to pull in $97 million dollars worldwide after only making $46 million domestically.

That seems good enough for a sequel, so says Samuel Hadida of Davis Films, who has hired Avery to script a sequel to the 2006 film. The 1999 series fo video games doesn't always follow a linear plot, so its unclear at this time if we'll pick up where the first film left Radha Mitchell (in some sort of foggy sub-reality).

Davis Films has quite a busy year going on right now. The production company is currently representing two properties at the Toronto Film Festival, the comic-adaptation Solomon Kane and Terry Gilliam's newest The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus (which we still hear will get a release from Sony Picture Classics). Davis films goes into production on Resident Evil 4: Afterlife this week and will start production on Silent Hill 2 after Resident Evil wraps up.p
