Thread: PSP

  1. No thanks. GBA games started at 35-40. It took a few months for Nintendo to realize that mistake.
"Chuy, you're going to have a magical life. Because no matter where you go, it's always going to be better than Tucson."

  2. Ooooh yeah. I remember Megaman Battle Network or whatever at $40. Same for Tactics Ogre. But then it was only the third parties selling for that much. Nintendo kept around $30. Honestly, it'd be nice if all games, reguardless of platform went for around $30.
It won't happen, but i'm a bigger fan of portables anyway. As long as they don't push above $50 i won't cry too much.

It's all psychological. Most people won't pay $50 for handheld games, even if the games are PS2 quality.
    No gnus is good gnus.

  4. For me, it's hard to justify spending $40-$50 for a portable version of a game I can not only get for $20, but also an issue of these games costing so much more than many games that I like on full-fledged systems.

Tony Hawk? Need For Speed? Hot Shots? Even GTA? Enjoy your scaled-down retreads of games you already own on a console. It's the original titles that make or break a system for me.

...and the DS hasn't had its share of "scaled-down" titles? C'mon, you sould know better.

Closer inspection reveals that the DS editions first/third-party titles have more or less been retreads as well; some of which don't even extensively flaunt the system's capabilities. Even then, a feature like tapping on screen does not denote originality. And to date, Feel the Magic has been the only real original title to hit the system.

I agree the buying UMD movies is retarded, but you can easily just rip your DVDs to a memory stick if you wanted.
Technically, the DS only does raw 802.11. It's completely up to you what you send over the radio. If a dev wants to use TCPIP there's nothing stopping them, likewise if they want to use their own proprietary protocol they can. As far as I know the BIOS doesn't have any wireless related calls onboard, instead I'm assuming the devkit contains a library written by Nintendo that implements a custom protocol, referred to as Nifi.

Most will use Nifi unless they specifically want internet capability because it's much harder to sniff using PC wireless hardware, it's less bulkier than TCPIP, and Nintendo has already provided an API in the devkit so they don't have to write their own protocol from scratch.

Nintendo can release a TCPIP library somewhere down the line, if they haven't already, otherwise each dev will write their own as needed.

You're WRONG! There's Kenshui Tendo Dokuta and Band Brothers. Neither of which are available in anything besides Japanese. Hey, we can at least pretend there was no such thing as Bejeweled.

For the record, Feel the Magic sucks hard.

;\ And why the hell would i spend $50 for a game that i already have? (ignore Mr. Driller) I don't give a shit about anything besides Lumines and that Mercury game. I don't understand all this Ridge Racers hype. It's pretty but so what? Just don't tell anyone i want Darkstalkers.

For the record, Feel the Magic sucks hard. Zoo Keeper's where it's at. Panic Bomber was awesome too. ;_; I miss you Virtual Boy.

As far as i know, Lumines and Mercury haven't been done on another system, so there. Really, though. Who can resist Hot Shots?

  8. Yeah, I don't get this FTM love. It's pretty boring; Touched! is way better even if it isn't as good as the original.

  9. Uhh... something seems odd about Finch's last post. Partially because I don't think I've EVER seem him cuss. *heh*
WARNING: This post may contain violent and disturbing images.

  10. Obvious prediction #54: The PSP will be as popular as the PS2 in the US, but the UMD format will be as popular as the PS2's Firewire port.
