Thread: GunGrave - Hands-on Imressions

  1. THat figure looks sweet Will, except for the puffy pants

Looking forward playing GG as well

  2. Yeah that figure looks awesome, its too bad no sites whatsoever have been able to get clear high res pics of the game in action.

  3. I didn't have much fun with this game. Sure, there is plenty of action, but thats not always a good thing. The demo took no skill or strategy. the entire demo consisted of merely holding down the shoot button. no need to dodge fire or anything. and the graphics looked like ass compared to other cellshaded games.
Hopefully the final game won't suck as much as the demo did. I guess suck is a strong word, i give the demo a 6/10.

  4. The graphics don't look too good I agree. Looks really pixelated from the screens and give almost no hint of cel shading unless it's a gritty type of look. I'd go for DMC type graphics if I were sega but maybe it'll work out in the end. It does show promise in character design and stuff so there's still time.

  5. Yeah, I too like the character design. The game certainly does have potential, but like i said the game had no strategy too it, and it controlled a bit too clunky for a fast paced action game.

  6. I need that figure! And I still think the game sounds good.

Well, I've seen it in action, and it doesn't seem all that special. People that have played it at E3(I think Kinopio did)said that there was no strategy involved, just holding down the shoot button. Devil May Cry does it a lot better; each enemy requires a different strategy to defeat. I do hope they add some sort of ranking structure, or mission element or else all Gungrave will be is a half-assed cel-chaded DMC with all of its action and none of its brains.

  8. Yes, I did play it at E3.

I've seen people mention gungrave and DMC in the same sentence. Gungrave is nothing like DMC, except for the fact that they are both stylish action titles. DMC is a much better game, both in terms of style and action.

  10. Yes, nothing but pure action... and the ability to see what you're doing! *gasp* Truly a difficult concept to grasp in this day and age.

Also, outside of bosses, almost none of the enemies in DMC require strategy. Shoot, slash a bunch, jump, slash, repeat. Once you've got the grenade launcher it's even easier. One of the main reasons I'm pushing aside the fact that you simply shoot things is because I hear the exact same thing all the time for other games (like the entire overheard/sideview shooter genre for instance) that are wonderfull fun, and I've also heard people say Bangai-O is nothing but "press the bomb button".

I certainly hope they don't add any sort of mission element (unless it's done solely in cutscenes and doesn't interfere with the levels), because I'm sick of developers sticking in useless goals in action games for the sole purpose of making it play longer, despite the fact that almost no one actually wants to perform those goals, and want to play the action game for the action (DMC, the entire FPS genre as of late aside of Serious Sam, and so on). Having games with stupid goals so people will claim they're "deeper" is all well and good, but having pure action games are rare as hell anymore (Silent Bomber!).
