  1. Info wanted on these newly acquired puzzle games...

    Hi,

I recently bought the following, and was wondering if anyone could give me some background on any of these...granted, they are all pretty obscure, but all look to be much more interesting than the normal tetris style game, which is what I like, in the Devil Dice/IQ vein. Here are the games:

    Acid (PS1) Jpn. release only
    Otostaz (PS2) Jpn. release only
    Builebaka (PS2) Jpn. release only
Cu On Pa (PS1) Jpn. release only

Any play or tips info would be appreciated, especially on Acid, since it looks really cool, but the instructions being all in Japanese, will be difficult to figure out. The games seems to be mostly in English though, as these puzzle games seem to be. Here is a scan of the front and back of Acid:

Oh I always wanted to try that Building Baku game, how is that?

I've spent a good 80+ hours with Otostaz and I think you could end up liking it a lot once you get the fundamentals of how the pieces interact down. Try playing more of the normal (street?) mode so that you can unlock more Hints, and play Puzzle mode every now and then too to get used to how you can predictably and controllably destroy buildings to your needs. Many times you'll find yourself in a quick need to build to a certain level (mostly for defeating the black devil-houses), so you should isolate all but two kitty-cornered buildings; from there it's easy to alternate back and forth between the two sets of corners to eventually build a 2x2 block into two 6's and two 5's.

What's up with that Acid game? It looks neat.

  3. Yeah, Acid looks like I want to buy it.
Quick zephyrs blow, vexing daft Jim.

  4. I just got the Acid yesterday, so I haven't tried it yet (been sick), but will update when I do. It seems from the back insert screenshots to be a cross between like a Rampart style game (where you shoot sections of a wall out) and Rez or Internal Section, since it seems to have some trippy style going on.

I haven't received the others yet (ordered from markinjapan.com , he's a great guy for imports), but will have them soon and will update.

Builebaka is an Intelligent Qube style game from what I'm told where you lay out detonation blocks to collapse a building. The floorplans get more complex and the buildings get bigger as you go. I believe it was delayed in Japan because of 9/11.

Cu On Pa is a game that I believe was released on PC (called Endorfun?) and SNES (in japan). You roll a cube over a playfield to clear something, I'm not exactly sure what yet....supposedly, the PC version had a soundtrack that had subliminal messages in it like "Everything is fine" and "the world is nice and full of light" and such stuff We'll see if I feel suddenly great after playing it

Some pics of the other games:
