Thread: Avatar: The Last Airbender

  1. Anyone catch last night's episode? I liked it, but the end was far too expositional for my liking. The characters pouring their hearts out with little provocation is evidence of lazy writing, but I guess they're in a rush to further characterize some of these people before they set them in their place for the rest of the season.

Combustion Man reminds me of Robocop for some reason.

  2. C'mon you guys can't say the animation isn't choppy as shit. Seriously rewatch the first season when i get home I'll get a specific episode but theres like frames missing in alot of stuff. Like the action sequences are fine but but normal stuff like when they're reaching to pick something up are really choppy.

I get the feeling that the writers are constantly bumping into the 22 minute limit.

Have you seen an animated show in the last 20 years? That isn't unique to Avatar. Most production companies animate at 24 frames per second for action sequences but stick with 12 FPS for most everything else. This is largely because of budgetary restrictions although there are also some technical explanations.

There are exceptions (The Simpsons, Futurama, Family Guy,) mostly due to the money dumped into each episode + the far simpler character designs.

Yeah but it's painfully noticeable at times.

Don't get me wrong I love this show as much as the next guy thats just the part that irks me.

Changing the subject Sokkas Master was an amazing amazing episode. I think they did a very good job with it.

  6. Avatar's animation has been smooth as glass since it started...not sure where you spotted the choppiness.

The last episode was pretty good. This third eye assassin was impressive, but my fav mercenary type character so far was the lady with the animal that tracked by smell. Uncle Iroh had me rolling when he faked being knocked out so he could lay next to her. lol

  7. Don't miss the episode tomorrow. It's too badass to spoil, really.

EDIT: If you guys really can't wait,

They have up to chapter 8 available to watch. Chapter 9 by tomorrow. Pretty decent quality too. If you hear a really annoying sound like a *plok* sound, it's the stupid ass chat room going on at the bottom of the screen. You can turn chat sounds off.

  8. Cool website nice find. I can bring to watch the episodes that haven't aired though.

  9. lol...Toph and Sokka running scams on people to earn money to survive...excellent. Toph is a natural at it. Lol @ Toph's wanted poster with the teeth...hahahaha.

I notice Sokka bought a messenger hawk/bird...I wonder if it will figure predominately into the story or a passing fancy?

That third eye guy is as relentless as Zuko was.

    Thanx.

Finally, an episode i did not like: "Daydreams and Nightmares". Without revealing anything it was a boring "filler" episode that had very little relative content.
