Thread: Does Metal Slug 3 (Jap PS2) work with the Swap Magic 3.3 Boot discs and the slim PS2?

  1. Does Metal Slug 3 (Jap PS2) work with the Swap Magic 3.3 Boot discs and the slim PS2?

    Hi

I really need to know if Metal Slug 3 (Japanese ps2 game) wil work with a new slimline PS TWO (toploading) AND the Swap Magic 3.3 boot discs.

(using either a ps two fliptop lid mod OR the PS Two Magic Ghost Switch mod - if MS 3 DOES work for you, please indicate which of these mods you were using

If anyone out there has a USA PS TWO (slim version and toploading) and has Swap Magic 3.3 and Metal Slug 3 (Japanese ps2), please help!!

    Thanks

  2. If you purchase the tabs for the slimline for use with the swapmagic, it should work.

Is there any particular reason why your asking? Have you heard differently?

  3. Mr. B -

Well, no I haven't heard differently. However, I can't find any sites that list Swap Magic 3.3 (which is the only one so far that works with the slimline ps2) compatibility with Metal Slug 3.

I mainly only want Swap Magic for MS 3 ,so it'd be kinda silly to get Swap Magic 3.3 and the Japanese PS2 Metal SLug 3 and THEN find out they dont work together on a USA PS Two

BTW, do you need to open the PS Two to install the "Magic Ghost Switches" or "tabs" as you refer to them as? (I've seen one web page's installation of them that oepns up the system and one on another website that doesn't seem to...

  4. Why not just get the XBox version and be done with all this swap/converter nonsense? Not having an XBox is no excuse- you should have one by now.

    Heh. Says you

    Couple reasons:

    1. I'm not sure there are enough games on Xbox yet (exclusives) to warrant the purchase of the console for ME.

    2. I want MS 3 for the mot realiable console, and im betting PS Two (slimline one) is more reliable than Xbox (DRE wise - ps two is toploading, Xbox is frontloading).

    3. Lack of space in my console under my TV heh PS TWO is a MUCH better fit

    4. Metal Slug 3 on Xbox has the messed up continue system, MS 3 ps2 doesnt

    5. Price - getting a Magic Swtich set and a Swap magic 3.3 OR the fliptop mod and Swap Magic 3.3 costs around $50. New XBox = $150..

    Thats about it.

Zerodash - Thanks for responding anyway

  6. you don't need to open the slimline to insert the tabs, as far as I know. I was looking into purchasing the same thing to play espgulada.

Almost every non exclusive title either looks better, sounds better, or has online play that their ps2 counterpart doesnt.
    2. I want MS 3 for the mot realiable console, and im betting PS Two (slimline one) is more reliable than Xbox (DRE wise - ps two is toploading, Xbox is frontloading).
Yes, it is frontloading, which would clear up that problem with your "limited space" that is listed below. Secondly, the XBOX to PS2 drive problem rates FAR better in the XBOX category(ie...Xbox's dont die as much as the PS2)
    3. Lack of space in my console under my TV heh PS TWO is a MUCH better fit
Read above. Front loading > Top Loading when considering space needs.
    4. Metal Slug 3 on Xbox has the messed up continue system, MS 3 ps2 doesnt
Xbox + emulators + metal slug 3 rom = win, and even without you still save money compared to the setup you're talking about(read below for clarification).
    5. Price - getting a Magic Swtich set and a Swap magic 3.3 OR the fliptop mod and Swap Magic 3.3 costs around $50. New XBox = $150..
You're telling me that a "slimline" 149.95 PS2, MS3(39.95), Swap Magic 3.3(what, 19.95?) costs more than a 150.00 XBOX system? You must be out of yer god damn mind.

btw; it'd be a good idea to drop the whole smiley thing, you come off soundin really retarded like that.

Not when the Xbox is 7 times the size of a PStwo.

  9. MrWhiteFolks - Lets not turn this thread into a flame war OK?

But I've got to reply to what you said:

    Me:
"1. I'm not sure there are enough games on Xbox yet (exclusives) to warrant the purchase of the console for ME."

    You:
"Almost every non exclusive title either looks better, sounds better, or has online play that their ps2 counterpart doesnt."

Except I'm geting all my multiplatform titles for Gamecube (whose graphics in general look almost identical to the Xboxes - not enough difference for me anyway)

I also like being able to use the GC controller or PS2 controller (via a controller converter). Gamecube is also very reliable and I dont really care about online play.

    Me:
"2. I want MS 3 for the most realiable console, and im betting PS Two (slimline one) is more reliable than Xbox (DRE wise - ps two is toploading, Xbox is frontloading)."

    You:

Heh. the poster above me is right, the pS Two is like 7 times smaller than the Xbox, it has a smaller footprint than the XBox and heck, if you use the vertical stand its like its not there at all heh (inside the console under my TV against the inside side of the console).

I wont dispute the Xbox vs the OLD Ps2 drive failure problems for the moment, tho it doesn't really matter to me because I'm Im talking about the PS TWO (the smaller, slimline version). I havent heard anybody complain of DREs with it yet and thats way less than the Xbox ;-D Also, in general toploading consoles tend to be more reliable.

    Me:
"3. Lack of space in my console under my TV heh PS TWO is a MUCH better fit"

    You:
"Read above. Front loading > Top Loading when considering space needs."

    Er, read my above response.

    Me:
"4. Metal Slug 3 on Xbox has the messed up continue system, MS 3 ps2 doesnt "

    You:
"Xbox + emulators + metal slug 3 rom = win, and even without you still save money compared to the setup you're talking about(read below for clarification)."

    Er, no Sorry,

    Me:
"5. Price - getting a Magic Swtich set and a Swap magic 3.3 OR the fliptop mod and Swap Magic 3.3 costs around $50. New XBox = $150.."

    You:
"You're telling me that a "slimline" 149.95 PS2, MS3(39.95), Swap Magic 3.3(what, 19.95?) costs more than a 150.00 XBOX system? You must be out of yer god damn mind."

Maybe I should have been a bit more clear here. I am ALREADY getting the slimline PS2 at some point (Metal Slug 3 or not) for other games. I dont count the cost of that, because Im counting the cost of being able to play Metal Slug 3 at home.
(If i get it on Ps2 Im already getting that, ifI get it on Xbox, I need to pay $150, Im not even sure im getting an xbox at all yet..)

Lets assume for simplicity that the Jap Ms3 and the US Xbox one are the same price ($40) Im already getting the ps two so that doesnt count.

    Getting MS 3 on PS2 = MS 3 ($40) + Swap magic 3.3 and magic ghost switch ($50 together) = $90

    Getting MS 3 on Xbox = MS 3 ($40) + Xbox system ($150) = $190

The idea is to NOT have to spend a boatload of $$ on ANOTHER system I'm not sure i'd be getting (Xbox) just to play a game I could play on the system I KNOW I'm getting (PS Two)

    Anyway, thats enough of that.

Anyone who wants to chime in with any helpful info or answers to my questions about Metal Slug 3/Swap Magic 3.3/Magic Ghost switches, please do so

  10. man, thats a fuckton of retardation. *shakes head* "the pstwo is way smaller, but i'll sit it sideways, which would make it taller than an xbox".

yeah, you go ahead and do what you want. this is just to damn far out of my ability to make fun of, that it's almost mind numbing.

btw; that smiley abuse is horrible.
