Each version has all the puppies, the version you choose just decides what puppies you start off with. You can buy the other puppies later on. So I doubt people are buying multiple versions, unless this information isn't well known...

    Why, hello Nintendogs 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Golden Retrievers = Nintendogs Gold edition!
    So true.

Not to be a smart ass but what else do they have to pick up? It's not like there's a big library of games to choose from when it comes to the DS at the moment.
Not to mention the only original IP that wasn't a sequel or of an established franchise to reach 1 million in sales in Japan in the past 6 or 7 years was Onimusha.... With sales like this, Nintendogs is well on it's way to breaking that drought. The 1st million seller that was an original IP in like 4 or 5 years...
There are others, Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors (ok that was cheap) and Smash Brothers. Don't forget though that a lot of games have a nice debute but then drop off fast. It remains to see if it has any legs and become a success. Then it has to repeat it in NA and EU before you can compare it to Pokémon.

edit: Missed the established franchise thingy..

That's certainly true here, but in Japan it's been a lot better. Meteos, Pac Pix, Kirby, etc... are already out over there... I think the whole puppy thing is appealing to a broad audience, probably to people that never even played games. If Nintendo markets this right it could be the killer app they need for the DS in Japan, in Japan it's really hard to have pets because of the extra costs and the limited space they already have.... Now if this can catch on with the rest of the world remains to be seen....

  5. Who cares how many units this sold? You can tickle puppies in it.

    That is awesome.

I was just in Japan and Nintendo has a HUGE marketing plan for this game, as well as Kirby and Pac Pix. There are commercials on TV all the time, billboards, fliers, posters, and even cardboard cutouts in stores. It's been one of the most highly anticipated titles there and it's because it's a simple game that doesn't require all that much time to enjoy it. Although, that seems to be the crux of most DS titles, and yeah, that better end soon.

You don't think it can? This is nothing but a new take on the sim/pokemon tale. There is a new generation of young kids every couple years. Nintendo has probably come up with the next must have playground trade-a-thon. This is what Nintendo has always strived for and always seems to nail regardless.
    Finished Games of '09
    nothing at this time

  9. I play games casually and a game like this makes me want a DS. It isn't big enough to make me go out and get one, however.

  10. I still can't believe the new "killer app" for the DS is a puppy simulator. I'll definately pick it up simply because I love puppies, and for some reason I havn't sold my DS yet. But seriously, a puppy simulator.
