Well, finished the game today, and it was fucking awesome. So polished.
I don't know what all you pussies were complaining about with those spinning blades, the horizontal ones took a little patience and on the vertical ones I only fell once. You really just have to take time to recognize the patterns.
No game has satisfied my "dark side" like this game has. None. Straight up brutal murder and destruction. Not even the Kotor games where you ruin lives has made me laugh this gleefully in my evil. Probably because this game doesn't burden you with a conscience at all.
Good difficulty slope in this game too. The enemies ramp up in difficulty but every enemy telegraphs their moves so with some observation you can learn and change tactics to become brutally effective again, crushing new mobs of baddies. Even the last fight, which at first seemed way too hard, was able to be broken down after a few tries by paying attention to the telegraphs. Like playing Punch Out. Good stuff. A+.
The only ways I could think of making the game better were really put into my head by the production team themselves after watching the FMV extras they provide on the game disc. (Which if you can't already tell by the previous sentence, I thought was an awesome touch. I wholly approve of that sort of thing in games like this and Guitar Hero.) A boss fight at Pandora's Box would have been cool. There was a real lack of boss encounters during the meat of the game. I also would have loved to climb Chronos myself. A lot of cool sequences were taken care of in movie sequences. I understand they ran out of time, but it might even be for the best pacewise because it tightens up the game and cuts out like, "travel time" that books and movies gloss over.
The way the levels were laid out and connected really made me happy too. As did all the awesome ways to mutilate your opponents. Some of those combos never ever get old.
That's all I have to say about that. Oh yeah, and I am a better player than you.
Photographic Evidence:
All right, it's a shitty picture because my buddy snapped it a bit early, but that is a 1,000 combo. It says "Impossible" along the bottom and it's an instant +300 vicious point bonus.
I actually got it to around 1100 but the bonuses and words stopped at 1,000.
Jesus after going back and reading this whole thread there's so much to respond to.
The game's not so much a mash-fest as it is just...easy. Trying to juggle enemies and put together bitchin' toss-up-and-throw combos is great.
I suppose like someone said earlier, the combat in this game is what you make of it. The game seems less about challenging your skills as a gamer and more about trying to enjoy yourself and string together a bunch of slick-looking moves. I am personally glad it's so much easier than NG or DMC3.
Yoshi pegged the order correctly, by the way. NG>GoW>DMC3
Outrageous. Kratos would simply grab Dante in both hands and then rip him apart. Pansy.Originally Posted by animegirl

b) have your God gauge full.
REMEMBER: When you are in the God mode your magic spells don't consume magic power. You can get at least a free hades cast out of this, and of course you also rape everything during this time. That's what put me over the edge.
Bumped becasue I got a thousand combo.
I'm 6 hours into this and can't help but wonder why this game got so much hype while Rygar just fizzled away.
(Well, it's a lot more polished and the story kicks way more ass of course.)
"Chuy, you're going to have a magical life. Because no matter where you go, it's always going to be better than Tucson."
