Sony wouldn't be that stupid, would they?

    Yes, they would.

  2. Putting GoW 2 on PS3 would not be stupid.

  3. 200,000 Installed Userbase vs 40,000,000 Userbase.

It would be impossibly stupid. Which means according to the way Sony has been operating for the past year or so I expect the announcement to be made in a few days.

  4. Is Sony concerned more about establishing the PS3 userbase in the midst of the most serious competition for gaming dollars and market share its yet faced or would they be wiser to milk the existing, already dominant, already victorious PS2 userbase? The PS3 needs hit games, as many system sellers out ASAP if they want to be able to move that $600 console.

  5. What Sony needs is to pay for that $600 system and all of its blunders from the past year. Quite simply there aren't enough PS3s in existence and there won't be for some time for them to even care about needing a big hit on that system. By the time Metal Gear 4 hits, yes they will care, because by then there should be a couple of million units in consumer homes. But right now Sony is bleeding money and the best way to stop that bleeding is to milk that huge PS2 userbase for all the money they can.

  6. What they need to do is cut that price. JESUS!

  7. That is just foolish talk. C'mon, man, you're telling me you don't release a hit title until there's already large installed user base? How the hell do you get that user base in the first place? Especially with a console that costs $600 versus two that cost significantly less and whose manufacturers have already long abandoned their own past-gen consoles? Yes, the same past-gen consoles that have larger user bases than their next-gen counterparts.

You don't quite seem to realize that that past-gen is for all intents and purposes finished. Developers have moved on, consumers for the most part have moved on, and the console manufacturers have moved on. The past-gen is done, and releasing a likely sure-fire hit title like GoW 2 on the PS2 at this stage of the console's life when you have a PS3 you need to succeed would be an utter waste of a system selling title. You don't sacrifice growth and establishment of the current market (next-gen) just to milk your margins from your past-gen consoles. Especially when your competition isn't doing so.

  8. When they have more units to sell. Right now it makes no sense for them to sell their small shipment at a discount price. When they get their shit together the price will come down.

And Gooch: Foolish talk is saying ya, lets release a multi-million dollar title onto a console that at best is going to give you a 50% attach ratio, since this is an M rated title, which means you're going to sell 100,000 copies of the game. Woohoo. They don't need to be in first place right now and its a good thing too, because they don't have the systems available to sell. A title only has at best a few weeks on the shelf of most retailers. It's just good economic sense to release it on the PS2. It's why Microsoft didn't kill itself to release Halo 3 when the 360 launched. There weren't enough systems.

And if the past generation is finished why is it that the PS2 was outselling the 360 for the past while?

The next-gen or new console era (since Wii isn't next-gen) didn't really start until all combatants entered the arena. All combatants are now in, and you don't live in the past by supporting the old consoles when everyone has moved on or is in the process of moving on.

The past-gen is finished. Stop acting like you don't know this. Sure, the PS2 is still a fine system, but the deciding consumers have now turned their attention to the 360, Wii, and PS3. You don't cater your strategy to appease the consumers who are just now or just recently buying PS2's, not if you want to win the current market.

  10. There are games on the PS2 that will keep me playing it for years.
