Being stupid plain sucks. Fortunatly, most of them are attractive females or good at basketball. Stefan Marberry is as close to retarded as you can get without actually being deemed handicapped. Nature has a way of balancing these things out.

That is dumb racist shit. You might as well have said "negroes are stupid".Originally Posted by Tracer

Truth is I know people who are not good at a particular subject BUT MAN can they freaking do math, or play the piano etc etc. Truth is we are ALL stupid in a certain area in something. I believe our society uses these things to make us feel low about ourselves an to not believe we can become something great. Dont believe me? Well check this out, how many of you think you have the chance to be an actor? Oh impossible eh? why is that? because people tell you , you cant? Have you tried? Will you ever? It's things like that , that make me believe differently. I do not think those 16% are generally stupid, just not as "gifted" or knowledgeable in that area.
Dont be a robot, be human.

Im not sure that being dumb is really that big of a handicap. Our society has numerous ways that you can succeed with out a strong genuine intelligence.

Personallity and physical adeptness will take you a long way. Especially personallity (I dare say this can, in a general sence be more usefull to your sucess than intelligence). Everyone needs a good dose of personality to 'make it.'Originally Posted by Mman

I question all of this. I mean this breaks right down to the age old argument, nature vs. nurture. So the person is genetically dumb, but can learned behavior correct this? I mean we all are born dumb to a point, we learn how to do things, read, etc. Of course some of us have disabilities to overcome, dyslexia, etc. which can be overcome with enough work. So I have an IQ of 85, first of all, is it cause the test confused me? I am horrible at standardized tests, but consider myself at least of above average intelligence. And then once I get those results, does that mean I am to give up? I can't improve my capacity by study and other exercises?
I think what it boils down to is way more 20% of our population is dumb and f%^&*( proud of it. They live in ignorance and have no desire to learn.
So yeah, I think our entire culture is dumber than it has ever been. You turn on TV, you listen to music, you read the papers, etc. Ignorance in everywhere. It is uncool to be smart. Ignorance is celebrated and perpetuated by our peers. Students are dumber than they have ever been, no one reads for pleasure, they read cause they have to for assignments, etc.
I know these are blanket statements, but as I see it, intelligence (and learning in general) is the single most important thing we have to accomplish in our lifetimes. The continual pursuit of knowledge leads to good and evil and that crap, but it leads to something.
Kids, adults, whatever -- I say there may be people who can't learn even though they want to, but there is no way in hell IQ cannot be improved. It's a lack of ambition that is keeping that 16% from shrinking way down.

"50,000! You scored 50,000 points on Double Dragon?"
I've also wondered how one could quantify intelligence, which is robust and nebulous in its every application. "Smart" people can be pretty dumb at a lot of things.
But then there's plain and simple dimwits. I don't know how one sorts it all out.
