I question all of this. I mean this breaks right down to the age old argument, nature vs. nurture.

I say nature can go fuck itself. For what makes it work is also on the basis that your fate has been written for you and there isn't a chance that often where you can lead a successful lifestyle away from what you are given. Look at people in Iraq, or people who were born disabled for example, where did god say we were all created equal then?

I've also wondered how one could quantify intelligence, which is robust and nebulous in its every application. "Smart" people can be pretty dumb at a lot of things.

So, about 16% of our population has an IQ under 85, and would probably be called "stupid" - not fair is it, given they were born this way. They're going to have a very hard time succeeding in life. Ah, I'm referring to people who are genuinely stupid but not actually disabled/retarded.

Is it just to have a group of Americans who will always have the deck stacked against them unless they're pretty, good at sports, or from a wealthy family? Is it fair to have them grow up in an educational system designed to send them to colleges they won't be successful in? Many people have a hard time accepting the fact that their children could even be stupid - stupid people exist, but they never actually seem to have parents. Some people thought that ugly women would be discriminated against if Hooters chose not to hire them - then why couldn't a stupid person sue for not being chosen to be someone's lawyer or doctor?

Do you think there is anything wrong with the way America treats stupid people?

It may not have been put all that tactfully, but the above is one of the main arguments for socialism - if having less-capable people (whether that lack of capability is caused by intelligence or something else) in your population is unavoidable, you may as well plan for something to do with them when they can't succeed on the same level others can.

I think the important question here is, is that percentage of dummyheads higher or lower than the developed world average? Because IQ is not static, if that percentage is higher than it rightfully should be then there may be a solution.

Yeah... it obviously has nothing to do with the fact that Tracer has problably never taken any acting classes nor does he really have any interest in acting. It's just society brainwashing him into working retail instead of pursuing (and eventually failing at) his true dream of ACTING.

Also, forget the fact that it's hard as fuck to succeed as an actor regardless of whether you have any true talent. But hey, it's okay if you want to lead people to a life of unfulfilled dreams and waitressing.

Low IQ does not = the ability to not succeed. You may have to work harder or maybe you just don't have what it takes, either way, doesn't make you less of a person. If you can find hapiness in working low-paying jobs and being relatively poor then that's great. My IQ is pretty far above average (don't have an exact number, it's not important anyway) and I work in manafacturing, I may eventually figure out a great thing to do with my life but now it just goes to show that (to an extent, being retarded is a different situation) it doesn't matter how low or high your IQ is.

Exactly! Honestly, I think IQ tests are worthless and used mostly by smart, snobby people to talk about how stupid everyone else is. The idea of quantifying intelligence is a valid one but the IQ test is a very very very bad attempt at it. I think its just better to say, we're all different and our goals should be finding something we like and we're good at.

The mechanic down the street might have an IQ of 85, but he knows a shitload more about cars so who am I to say that Im really smarter, better, or more worthy than he is?

The point is that there ARE some people who ARE intrested and are talented ( And this does not only go for acting its just an example) but do not try because of what I stated above.
