As for the damage modelling, it was pretty weak when I last played the game (which was September). I'd smash a car into a wall at high speed and barely scratch the paint. There's actually a couple videos of me being an idiot here: http://media.xbox.ign.com/media/682/682857/vids_12.html ("Bad Driver") and http://media.xbox.ign.com/media/682/682857/vids_13.html ("Tunnel"). Hopefully things have changed since then, though.

I'm also interested in seeing the way the career mode is set up.The driving model wasn't as demanding as Gran Turismo, and that's probably not going to change. But the better AI is definitely going to be nice.
Yeah! You smashed the wall pretty hard. Not a scratch, from what I saw. I guess the real time damage, is just a pipe dream?

Perhaps there have been some changes to the build in the past 5-6 months? I'm not trying to sound sarcastic; just throwing the idea out there.

I'm really, really, really looking forward to Forza. I think that it has the potential to be a superb game.

I hope you're right, but I have a hard time believing they could do so, in such a short time. If the game had 100 different cars, that would take a very long time, to implement such changes.

Five to six months is a long time. Also, they dont have to tweak every single car if it is programmed correctly.

Seriously, how game development works is that everything is all fucked up and incomplete until its a few months from being done, then it all just starts to come together.

    Have faith, brother.

edit: and even if the car damage is half-baked and the driving model isnt as nice as GT4, the addition of a career mode, online play, and better AI would still make it more interesting than GT4. Half-baked car damage is better than no car damage, anyway.

  5. Car damage itself doesn't really interest me. What I do want is more penalty for smashing your car into other racers and into walls. GT4 does a good job of this in the special conditions (rally type) events, but nowhere else, though it's still actually better to race properly than to bounce off walls.

Judging by the Corvette videos on that very same page, it looks just as fucking stupid as GT4. The only difference is that now, with car damage, you actually have to keep yourself in check (or, at least if it is implemented right). But the AI looks just as retarded. If you watch, the player even uses the exact same strategies you can use to "cheat" in GT4, on that infamous tight turn on Leguna Seca, and it actually appeared to work better than it does in GT4. Never the less, that Popular Science video was very cool, though I've seen several videos of the same thing but with GT4, or comparing Forza to GT4.

Anyway, the AI in simulation racers really doesn't matter to me if they remain set up the way they are, in that you can merely upgrade your car to the point that you can just flat out over power the competition, at least in the vast majority of races. But yeah, MarkRyan gets the point in regards to car damage/AI; if it still isn't going to matter whether you use the competition as bumper cars, none of it is going to make a difference. In any event I'll be picking this up, but I have absolutely no expectation that it will be anywhere near as good, let alone better, than GT4. But hey, if it is, I will be the first to admit it.

Oh, and the car modeling sucks.

And Diff, do you actually play simulation racers?
Buy Yakuza and Oblivion. Help yourself, help TNL.

  7. Is it possible to use a GT Force Pro on the XB, with a USB to XB converter?

Won't recognize on start up and doesn't seem to be a simple answer on Google.

What would you consider a "simulation racer"? I have no intention of spending any significant amount of time with GT4, but Ive enjoyed some stuff like Colin McRae 2.0 and what not in the past.

This sounds like fanboyism, but let's all just wait until the game is out.

The realtime damaging is amazing IMHO. I'm sure you were playing an early build because the damage modeling impressed me quite a bit. I wasn't expecting XNA style car crunches though, but anything is better than GT4.

And are you even penalized for bumping and going off track in GT4?

  10. What exactly sounds like fanboyism? I played the game and gave you some pretty objective impressions.

And in GT4, there's zero penalty for retarded driving in 90% of the races. However, there is a Special Conditions hall which has a bunch of battle races--you and one other car on the track. If you bump into the car, you get slowed down to 30 MPH for five seconds. If you bump into the sides of the track, you get slowed down to 30 MPH for five seconds. It works pretty well and, if they AI weren't so dumb, I'd've liked to seen that same system applied to every race in the game.

EDIT: I say "zero penalty," but retarded driving really does net bad lap times in GT4. Wall bouncing won't get you around corners faster than properly braking and taking your racing line. GT4 is definitely a technical driving game, which is what I do love about it.
