Thread: Gunstar Super Heroes

  1. It's no more of a remake than say, Super Castlevania IV, which never seems to get shit on as a rehash. Also, I loved the Thunderblade stage, but that hit box is huge. and the close-combat moves make alot more sense than throwing with the zoomed in view. It was removed for a reason.

  2. eh?

I still don't buy the Super Castlevania IV is a rehash argument. Is it because it has Death, Frankenstein, Medusa, etc?

Anyway the sword is boring so bring back the throws.

But Castlevania IV really is a remake. In Japan, it even shared the title of the original, Akumajo Dracula. This isn't Frogacuda's opinion or mine. It's a fact. It also doesn't change that CV4 was a good game.

  4. I haven't gotten to the credits yet - did Non do the music? It sounds a lot like his/her stuff and the tracks that I have noticed I really liked.

Probably also why they put this off as long as they have.

  5. It's like Pepsiman's comments. He's bothered that it's too much of a rehash, but he's upset that they changed a move. It's no-win, really. I've honestly played this side by side with the original a bunch in the last couple days and it stacks up admirably. The lack of extras is pretty lame, and it is on the short side, but the game is strong enough that it doesn't need these for longevity. The difficulty is easier than Astroboy's US release, but it's about even with the original too. I don't know, I think people are overthinking it.

NON is pretty much Treasure's only musician at this point, except when Iuchi feels like composing or they hire an outside musician. Nazo2 left years ago to go back to Konami.

They dropped the Afterburner, Thunderblade, and Galaxy Force music from their respective levels, probably over some kind of intellectual property issue. I bet this was an Altered Beast reference and got cut for the same reason. Makes sense now. Kind of a pisser, too, but at least it wasn't because the game got rushed out the door.

  7. Why the hell would they drop the music!?
It's published by Sega, so I can't imagine them having a problem with it.
Maybe it was just placeholder music in the first place?

  8. Eh

I seem to remember listing a few more complaints than just a simple move change.

Some of the areas(Like the first section of stage 6) are so bland and uninteresting I can't even call it a good rehash. And the Pink boss fight is just awful, seriously now Treasure could have done better in that regard.

I'll go ahead and say the throw would have been useless in Gunstar Superheroes anyway since the non-boss areas are so straightforward and simple(run forward and shoot solves the problem 90% of the time) there'd be no reason for it.

It is a sequel in some ways since the story takes place after the events of Gunstar Heroes, but it's like comparing Jet Set Radio to Jet Set Radio Future. A sort of re-imagining more than anything else.

Although to be honest I really don't see the point of Gunstar Superheroes, it combines a few elements of the original game and even a few pieces from Alien Soldier, but it does justice to neither title and I don't see how it can "stack up admirably".

And whatever Konami wants to call Super Castlevania 4 I don't care, it's still more of a sequel than a remake since aside from the basic storyline(Vampire Hunter goes to kill Dracula) there's very little in common with the original.

Besides that...Vampire Hunter goes to kill Dracula? That must mean we've had some 40 or so remakes of Castlevania 1 floating around..right whatever.

It might have interfered with Treasure maintaining the copyrights on the title as per their policy.

  10. Ah, I see.
    That makes sense.
I thought it was the other way around.
