I have no problem with putting it this way.

It does justice to them just fine. It's fast, frenetic, eye-catching with some novel sequences. It's fun to control, it nails the atmosphere, kicks the style up a notch... The elements are all there.

That just isn't true except for that one 10 second stretch in level 6 you mentioned, and even then, that only works on normal and easy, not hard. The levels are well varied, and toss shit at you from all directions, often tossing you on the back of your ship, or having the screen scroll up and down or whatever. Yeah, the enemies are popcorn and not that tough, but the original was like that too.

  2. It comes out this Wednesday. I want to pick this up, but Pepsiman's comments are making me doubt the eventual purchase. Has anyone else besides Pepsiman and Frogacuda played this yet?

In the original I used the homing gun, pointed it straight up into the air, ran to the right, and killed everything.

    Everything.

I hope to be able to do the same thing in the sequel. If not, I'll delete it off my hard drive.

  7. I plan on buying this game as soon as it's available, but I'm disappointed that the classic Sega tunes and cameos were removed.

  8. i played a bit of the japanese version but didn't play past the 1st stage 'cause i didn't wanna ruin any surprises for myself once i could read the story. in any case i thought the game was fine....from the very little that i played. i don't see why there are so many complaints about little things. i mean...if you're gonna complain about this sequal then you should complain about most sequals. and it's funny 'cause when some sequals change "too much" people get all pisy and say "this doesn't deserve to have the blah blah blah name attatched to it" and then when it stays close to the original with some refinements they say "this doesn't count as a sequal/they could've done more." no one's every happy with anything. anyway....hopefully i'll be able to pick this up this week....or next week.

  9. Hooraaay for endless, whiny nitpicking. Sheesh.

Anyways, can't wait to pick this up in a few days. This is gonna get overtime on my GB, once I get a few more dollars I will pick up a new graphite SP. I'm gonna pretend each and every one of the comical drone soldiers is a customer I'm talking to on the phone.

  10. I'm playing the game (In Japanese do I don't know what the hell is going on) and so far it's awesome. The action is a hell of a lot faster than the Genesis game, and on beginning the first stage I'm already beginning to notice the changes made. The beginning of Moon 1 (The first stage in the original) starts off with a rather surprising change to the gameplay. Very responsive controls and it really put the pressure on me. Advice to people when they pick up the game, do not start on easy difficulty. It really dumbens down the experience. Bosses are much easier. Normal or hard is a much more acceptable pace to play at. Currently navigating my way through the 4th stage. You know that bit in the original...

Where Blacks maze appears and you have to roll the die to proceed?

Well it's much much longer and complex this time round and there are a lot more oppurtunities for grabbing upgrades and battling more enemies.

The games good so far but I don't think it's anywhere near as hard as the genesis game. Might just be my tendency to complete old games quicker now I'm older. Off to play more now.
