Well, You will have to wait till EP3 comes out for those, and at by that time Lukas hopes fans will forget the small details about original trilogy, and so he can insert those new ones in, and no one will careWhat a plan !

I know people would spit on Lucas just for stuff like Jar Jar, but I WILL think him not worth a shit if the original trilogy is not released on dvd unfettered. I've heard alot of things that make it out like Lucas won't release the originals, but it will be at least 3 years till anything happens, though. We have to wait to till the whole story is done, and Lucas finishes adding yet more things to the original trilogy. Make all the souless CG films you want old man, just give me the original trilogy.Originally posted by Rick

I really hate to say crap like this, but maybe, just maybe, The killing of the Tusken Raiders was a metaphor of the brutal treatment and killing of the "savage" Native Americans by the Europeans.
Perhaps Padme is a s cold as she seems in both Episode I and II, and that's why she didn't really give a shit. Well, she kinda seemed shocked at first, but she got over it really quick like.
I know what you mean about that Native American thing. I could just see the old guy with no leg on the moisture farm squinting his eyes and looking in the distance for them damn injuns. Lucas, like Speilberg and Coppola have admitted influences from Kurosawa and Ford movies, the whole Star Wars saga has an intergalatic cowboy movie feel to it.Originally posted by adol

What I just don't beleive is that a woman who is cultured enough to deal with many other races and species everyday, and who is warm enough to love, could have care for someone who has done such a blatantly evil act. She has both the brains and the heart to know what Anikin did was unforgivable.

I agree with you on that. From my perspective, Tuskens are not that savage but rather more like pirates. I never thought they would torture just to torture that's why I think the Empire set it up. Padme doesn't seem to express much at all, maybe because she's been a politician all her life, I don't know. Neither Anakin or Amidala seem like very decent people to me...maybe that's why they get along...Originally posted by Green
What got to me was what he said, and how he said it, "I killed them all, and not just the men, but the WOMEN, and the CHILDREN". I don't care who you are, killing kids is not something to take lightly. Even the most closest people to me, if they did something like that, I wouldn't beleive they are the same person. I guess I just don't share the same opionion about Tusken Raiders being the ultimate skum of the galaxy. So they are savage to teen trespassers, and they hold people captive for whatever reasons, so what. I'm thinking the Tuskens were there first, and they simply cannot communicate with any other race. They live a harsh nomadic life, but that doesn't mean they are totally cruel and evil. The men might love thier kids and women, but no one knows because the only people there are settlers who just want to be moisture farmers and don't know anything about Sandpeople. Just because someone is of a different culture doesn't make them evil, and Padme of all people should know this.
As far as screwing with the old movies again, well Lucas already messed them up once, so might as well completely destroy them. I'm forced to watch the original trilogy on the old VHS tapes they first released (my grandparents gave me their copies of the very first VHS tapes released for home video-- my Star Wars has an individual serial number and it's in those big old slide cases they used to put them in...but they are so worn out from watching them as a kid)...my hope is that he'll release all the different versions on one DVD...but who knows what Lucas will do...
"50,000! You scored 50,000 points on Double Dragon?"
Bitch, bitch, bitch.
The original trilogy wasn't exactly indie arthouse material. It was the most technologically advanced filmmaking at the time. If Lucas were to release the original trilogy unaltered on DVD, what exactly would he be preserving? Mark Hamill's hokey line readings? Carrie Fisher's wooden acting? 1970's quality special effects?
Star Wars has always been about using high technology to tell a good story. Why the hell shouldn't Lucas use all the digital enhancement he wants to make the original trilogy better on DVD?
It's not like anything of value will be lost in the translation.

Well, Enhancing visual fx, and backgrounds with CGI footage is one thing, but trying to rewrite, or insert plot points or characters not present in original version just to fit his those with newest films, and erase continuation errors of his writing, is very different story. Its like an author will go back to his original book and rewrite it to better fit the sequels he wrote many years after.
If you think doing that just fine, why Lukas just go, and replace most of the actors with cgi and insert his favorite gunkun into the plot of original trilogy. It would be sooo cool, you know ....
I do wish that the saber battles in original were better, because compared to EP1&2, those are quite boring. Maybe Lukas can go and digitally enhance them, while he at that.
Who said anything about changing major plot points? That's news to me.
As for changing a finished product being akin to some unholy violation: last I checked, "director's cuts" were pretty popular these days. Requiem for a Dream and Blade Runner were both vastly improved in their respective director's cuts, and I don't see too many people complaining about them. Books often get the same treatment. Shakespeare died over 400 years ago, yet editors are constantly revising his plays and releasing them in new editions. Many authors do the same to their own work.
So what's wrong with George Lucas doing the same thing to the original trilogy? They're his movies, not yours. If you want to see the original releases, go rent or buy the old VHS copies. A DVD release of the old cuts isn't going to make them look any better.

Well, with director cut, its usually old, or altrnative footage or scenes, shot with the movie, that didnt made into film, or were cut for various reasons at the time of original release.
What Lukas plan on doing is shooting completely new footage for the films, and inserting them into 20 year old films.
