The ending is there to be emotionally satisfying. But IRL, Lt. Aldo Raine will be dead in a few years from "undetermined" causes. If he was going to mutilate him, he should have just killed him with the truck driver and lied about it when he got back.
It is an unnaturally bad/stupid decision in an otherwise very intelligent movie.

I haven't decided if I prefer Pulp Fiction or this. It's that good imo. In fact I need to see it again, maybe over Christmas weekend.

Did you even watch the entire movie? Hans Landa was a Nazi whose purpose in the movie was to hunt down Jews and kill them. Raine's purpose was to kill hundreds of Nazis. Please tell me where it makes sense that Raine would be afraid of Landa getting revenge on him in the future.
Besides, even if Raine would have been hunted down and killed by Landa, why would Raine even care about that? I don't think Raine feared death, exactly.
Hans Landa hunted down Jews in a civilian setting. He used records and contacts to find people. Raines found nazis in a combat zone (something probably easy to do in WW2) and killed them. It isn't even remotely the same thing. Its the difference of a detective finding someone, and walking around until you bump into someone.
After they both get back to the US, Hans is completely equipped to hunt Raine's down. He'd watch him, stalk him, and make some slight deathly alteration to Raines' life, causing his death. Something simple like poisoning something he always buys or cutting his breaks the night before a trip he always makes.
Raine probably wouldn't be afraid. Because his character was bullheaded and stupid. But he probably should have been. Enough to just kill him with the driver.

I love how Ironplant made up his own ending to the movie where the Jew Hunter hunts down Aldo and kills him, which is completely out of character and ridiculous.
Yep, killing someone that carves a swastika in your head, is pretty unnatural...
