I like Pulstar better myself, but they're two very different kinds of shooters... I wouldn't consider them something interchangeable, but I've found myself in the mood to play one or the other.

With that said, I'd still pay $50 for a disc with both of them on Xbox or PS2.

I think the stellar music (bought the soundtrack which was a huge disapointment quality wise) and announcer tied me over back then. Probably was five years since I last played it but the absence of check points (it didn't have any correct?) was refreshing back then at a time when I hadn't discovered manic shooters.
And of course anything Cave related is more interesting, pre-ordered the OST btw?

  3. Am I the only person that puts Blazing Star above Pulstar?

And add Sengoku 3 to this already decent list and I'm set.

We'll just pretend that I wouldn't buy this anyway.

Nah, I know lots of people who do. Like I said, depends on what you like. I prefer shooters that involve some memorization over those where you go for crazy high scores, and I'm an R-Type fan, so Pulstar rocks me. Blazing Star is pretty awesome too, and there's plenty of people who like that style better.

    Sengoku 3 is beyond crap.

  6. For crazy high scores you need more memorization than on survival only. Maybe the exclusion of a score system was what you were getting at.

Yeah, that'd be a better way of putting it, thanks. But to play Blazing Star casually, it doesn't require the kind of memorization Pulstar does, and that does appeal to some people. I find it to be a whole ton easier to just play through.

The first level track of Blazing Star sticks out in my head. You bet I pre-ordered the OST like a whore, the music is fantastic (3 and 5 are highlights). Looking at getting a cabinet, if so, that figure is going right on top.

  9. There's two tracks on the first level, I'm guessing you're thinking about the second one, it just screams welcome to the party at you. Stage 4's track is equally great, really should track those guys responsible of it down as they are bound to have created something good before or after that.

And Namiki is freaking awesome, can't wait to get my copies, 4 & 5 are my favourite tunes and the final boss pt:2 of course.
