see this is what I was talking about earlier

giving lois a kid means either A she can't be an investigative reporter the way she was, IE willing to hide on any plane ship boat what ever sneak into any secret lab or factory even if it meant risking her own life, or B she'd keep doing that and in turn be a horrible horrible mother

looks like they went with make lois a horrible mother
    Where I play

It's hard to find sympathy for them since she just walked onto a private boat for no real reason. I buy she found out where the outage started, but it started in the house not the boat she would have no reason to go onto it. Moreover the boat wasn't locked in any way shape or form it didn't even have a guard. The whole thing made no sense, Luthor wouldn't be stupid enough to let anyone waltz into his private boat.
You're thinking way too much about it in the wrong way. She didn't just go into the boat for no real reason. She heard music coming from there, so she figured the owner of the house would be in there. So if she was going to interview whoever that was about the outage, it was better to take the kid with her than to leave him in the car by himself.

Also, Lex not locking the boat or having any guards isn't him being dumb. It's him being overly confident. That's just how his personality is. If he was afraid of strangers coming onto his boat or into his house or whatever, it wouldn't make him Lex Luthor. Plus, he already had his henchmen inside the boat. There was no need for them to stand guard outside.

I don't buy that I really don't. It would have made much more sense for lois to drop her kid off before she went to interview the owner. Bringing your kid along is about as unprofesional as you can get. And luthor may be overconfident but he is also well known for planning out everything down to a tee, and leaving open door guardless seems totally out of character.

You're thinking about it too much from what a reasonable reporter and a "reasonable" sociopath would do. Neither Lois or Lex are reasonable to that extent. Lois is a semi-self absorbed "independant woman" who doesn't think she can be hurt. And Lex is a self-absorbed megalomaniacal egomaniac who thinks nobody can hurt him. He doesn't have guards; he has lackey henchmen. Whether or not this makes them stupid is debatable. However, it is not illogical within their character (note: we're only referring to the Lex and Lois of the movies).

In the first supes movie lex went throguht the trouble of creating that insane defense grid. So if were going stictly on the movies he really should have had some sort of defense. And really if Lois is such a great investigator you would think leaving your kid at home would be elementary. I'm nor saying your totally wrong or anything I'm just saying that scene needed to be re-written badly.

  6. It doesn't need to be re-written. You just need to stop thinking about it that way.

I think you're defending this one scene too hard, as it really is a stupid scene.

Whether you take the stance that you're taking (this is in character for Lois & Lex) or not, it was just stupid for Lois to take her kid with her when she had NO idea what type of enviornment she was going into. And that's besides the fact that it is totally unprofessional to bring your kid with you to work (and as a reporter, looks even worse). She deserves to have her kid taken away from her for that.

I know they played the scene for laughs, what with Lex in the middle of brushing his teeth, but the fact that she even got on the boat without any resistance is just as dumb. Even a locked door would've sufficed.

Say I'm taking it too seriously, but that's what I immediately thought as I was watching. Like I said in my semi-review, I really wanted to love this film, but little things like that tapered my love down to a mere like. I'm in total agreement with what Cowdisease said in his post earlier.

  8. She was on her way to the Pulitzer prize dinner. So bring the child is not unreasonable. She went to Lex's house not knowing it was Lex. She went there to investigate the origin of the blackout. And apparently it was the house. Her bringing the child is not bad, due to her not thinking there would be any danger. She heard music coming from the yaht(sp?), and her curiosity came out. Lex not having guards posted is typical Lex. In Superman 1. All he had was Otis. He never had a groupd of henchmen. So him building a security grid, lead box with Kryptonite, etc. would be his defense. Versus Superman Returns he has a gang ... thereby its they're own fault that she got on. If I was Lex I would be pissed, which he was when he told the Bruno to watch them(with a pissed off look on his face).

While I do agree that Lois shouldn't have endangered the kid like that there are several things that lead to the scene that make it work out in the end.

Lois was ready to go to the place she investigated (where blackout originated) but just remembered that Jason got out of school and picked him up. When she got to the boat along with Jason she couldn't leave him there, although I'm sure the option to leave him with Richard was there, so she took him with her. She even tries to leave the boat once she finds out it's Luthor's ship but she didn't know it was going to disembark so it all leads to their rescue by Richard and Superman which was the good stuff.

  10. Who the fuck cares it is a movie, and the boat scene was a plot device to keep the movie going. I can't believe you are arguing over the validity of Lois going into a boat when there is a goddamn flying invincible man who can shoot lazers out of his eyes.
