Thread: Superman Returns

  1. Lots of nit-picky bitches on teh web. Yeah, Lois taking the kid on the boat was silly of her, but who really cares.

giving lois a kid means either A she can't be an investigative reporter the way she was, IE willing to hide on any plane ship boat what ever sneak into any secret lab or factory even if it meant risking her own life, or B she'd keep doing that and in turn be a horrible horrible mother

looks like they went with make lois a horrible mother
Dude, that's nothing. If that bothers you then the scene where she anally rapes the kid with a red hot poker for a story on hemorrhoids she's doing while Cyclops mastrubates in the background will really drive you crazy.

If you ever re-watch SR, pay attention during the scene where Kate and Cyclops are in the kitchen talking about the "I spent the night with Superman" article. Kate turns to the sink and you get a full shot of her flat, disturbing, hardly-there ass. Ethiopians would make fun of that ass. Horrible.

Agreed. That one shot of her in the beginning of Silent Hill, where she's running under the bridge in her underwear? Me like.

  2. Anyone else catch Richard Branson's cameo?

  3. Saw this Monday. Overall, I enjoyed it a lot. However, I thought Lois wasn't very Lois-like (headstrong and plucky) and didn't think there was enough interaction between Clark and, well, anybody, but mostly Lois.

Also, I thought the story was really, really thin. I mean, it all amounted to Lex stealing some crystals and dropping them in the sea. Not exactly complex, but hey, it's a comic book movie right? Still, I would have liked to have seen more about Supe's trip back to Krypton and more dialogue/scenes with Lois and Clark.

I liked Routh as Superman and hope the sequel is better and that the dvd of this first one is an extended cut. Even though I felt it was a bit long in the theater, at home that won't be a problem. Ftr, I think it was a bit long for the fact that the story was pretty much non-existent and there wasn't a great deal of dialogue. So how'd they fill over 2 and a half hours?

The first half-hour or so of this was pretty much perfect though. The other two+ hours was hit and miss, but mostly good.

  4. There might not be a sequel to this movie though. It's not making enough return right now in theaters to cover costs so most of the profit will have to come from DVD. Albeit like 50 million of the cost was other douchebags trying and failing to revive the franchise.

And with Pirates coming up this weekend it has some really stiff competition. I myself haven't seen Superman Returns and will be checking out Pirates, and that kind of mentality could work against another Superman movie for awhile.

  5. Last I checked it was up to around 126 mil which is still under what spider man 2 opened at. I think it's pretty obvious that no the world doesn't need a super man.

I'm surprise it's that high right now. The reports through Monday had it at around $97 million.

  7. It was sold out opening weekend my way, I'm shocked it isn't a little higher.

Yeah I even noticed that on my first viewing (and I saw this twice), from what I've read I think she's like 5'7 and 97 lbs right now. I don't know what's up with some of these hollywood chicks and she does alot of Revlon stuff so you'd think she'd see herself and be more self conscious of her weight.

And yeah I find it very odd how this movie didn't break any records like Spider-Man. You'd think a world renown superhero like Superman would be breaking records left and right but I guess the oversaturation of superhero flicks can be attributed to that and Spider-Man's marketing has been somewhat better and more embraced. I dunno, maybe Spider-Man's just cooler to everyone.

I think he is. A saw a poll (forgot where) a while ago that had Superman coming in 3rd in terms of popularity, behind Spiderman (2nd) and Batman (1st). It's understandable why those two would be more popular than Superman, though. They're easier to relate to since they aren't perfect. However, I find Superman's "perfect" image and unrelatability a lot more interesting. A guy with powers who becomes a superhero because his uncle or whoever was killed by criminals is not as interesting as a god who still likes to walk to work despite being able to fly at the speed of light.

  10. I saw SR a 2nd time, trying to cement my opinion on it. The verdict is I really like Superman Returns. There are several parts that slow it down, but when it works, it works.

My friend and I laughed out loud on the 2nd viewing. The first scene with the old dying lady, those 2 kissing dogs' painting is on the wall, and we started to giggle at that, in anticipation of the funniest scene in the whole movie.

Jimmy Olsen cracked me up even more! That actor, Sam Huntingdon I think, really did a fine job at breathing fun & life into his scenes. When Richard White asks Lois why she was on the roof, and he says "come on Lois ... don't lie to us", Jimmy takes a big awkward bite of his burrito -- watch for that scene if you see it again.

Action was great. Love the iconic scenes. Love the updates to the Williams score too.
