Well, saw it tonight with dj. I guess it was better than I expected, so I will rate it decent, but I am on no way Superman fan.

Superman himself was pretty bland, and choice of villian and events werent too hot either. I wanted Supes do some damage, not fight Continents and Gas explosions

Singer did do good job directing, and fx team really worked well, so no more fake blue screen fx ala original Superman film.

I didn't quite see how Supes could lift the island into space with all that kryptonite either...

He dug deep enough underneath it to shield himself from the kryptonite. It didn't start to affect him until the kryptonite grew through and the rock underneath started to break away.

Did anyone actually believe he could turn back time by spinning the planet backwards in I...

That was one of the stupidous moments in movie history.

...or how the heck did he get his powers back in II after supposedly giving them up "permanently"?

That was due to bad editing by Richard Lester. In Donner's version, there was extra footage that showed how he managed to get his powers back. This should be included in the Donner version DVDs (whenever they decide to release them).

The whole hokey-comedy angle was actually not too bad, I enjpyed the way they tried to capture the feel of the old movies, but the story was dumb as shit even going by old Superman movies standard.

The whole kid thing was entirely unneccessary. Otherwise, Grade A comic book made film. I thought it was decent and as good as anything Reeves did. III & IV do not exist, as far as I'm concerned.

LONG. It was extremely LONG. An ok film, a petty good comic book movie, but LONG.
