Thread: Burnout Revenge

  1. 50% of the way through.

I grabbed the 360 racer today but I don't see it in my garage. I'm guessing it's for multiplayer use only which annoys me a bit. I'm also guessing the chain-related cars (Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.) are no longer being given out? Anyone know?

It's the retardedness of ELO. Did all the players remain in the race or did one of them drop?

Yup. Can't use the car in multiplayer, sadly. And there's plenty of other cars with some branding from companies (Gamestop, Plantronics, Alienware, Best Buy, Circuit City) that you mentioned...but even when you fully beat the game on 100%, don't expect any of them to be unlocked for use online.

By the way, the super secret achievement you receive when you achieve the 100% rating is the Burnout Revenge racer. Lame.

  3. I have to say that after playing this (mostly online) for awhile, I find the weekly resetting of the leaderboards frustrating as hell for a variety of reasons:

1.) Let's say my rank was in the top 4000 and the game resets the board. Now, I enter a room where no one knows me and my rank is "-", they are much more likely to kick me out for fear of me quitting which leads to:
2.) Quitters abound because the repurcussions are next to nil because the ranks get reset anyway.
3.) It ruins the history and career achievements over the long haul of all of the good racers out there by not rewarding their accomplishments over time.

    1. Generally no one will kick you out of a room because you have an "-". In such a situation, what you're experiencing is normal and no one is exempt from. Apparently EA resets the leaderboards every Tuesday for reasons that I still don't understand.

    2. People quit because they're stupid and have been doing this ever since Burnout was introduced to the online multiplayer realm. In the case of Revenge, word on the street is that there's a scoring glitch which affect ELO. In short, it's a retarded method of stealing ELO points from other racers who finish the race. Basically the people who quit are still awarded points as if they finished the race and came in first. Word must be getting around because I've discovered a gradual increase in quitters.

    3. Actually, the career achievements are meaningless, since everyone is on the same playing field when it comes to the vehicle selection. This is a huge contrast from say Takedown, where some players gained a huge advantage for having access to the F1 racers, while others hadn't advanced too far in the career mode and were stuck with the old 'n busted wheels.

The only incentive for beating the single-player mode to completion is boosting your Gamerscore. Getting back to point #1, yes, continued resetting of the leaderboards certainly hurts those who diligently spend time with the online mode... but the majority of the top 100 players are a close click and choose to play amongst themselves anyways. I've never cared much about ranking in Burnout anyways. I hit 113 last night, then dropped to 300-something, but come next Tuesday, it will be all for naught.

Bottom line: don't focus on ranking, it will be better for your nerves.

I've been in multiple rooms, when I was ranked decently, where the people in the room specifically kicked people out because they were unranked for fear of them quitting.

    Yeah, well, that just sucks.

I'm talking about the perspective of a guy who has raced for 4 months and is ranked 200 in the world. It means a lot more than a guy ranked 200 in the world on Tuesday night after the game has reset. I'm not talking about car availability, etc...

    I won't. It doesn't mean shit.

That bites., send those punks negative feedback.

Soon they'll realize that anyone is capable of quitting, high or low-ranked. I've seen it happen one too many times.

Hm. Pity for the guy that took 4 months to do it. LOL Seriously, EA messed up here and you can bet people in the community have been bitching a great deal. Everyone seems to be used to it by now. Anyways, unless that player sucks, it's really easy to get to 200 or better within a mere 2 or 3 races depending on the current rank of other players in the room. Let's say he managed to defeat a player who was 68 and he came in as a rank of 4000, every successful victory takes away ELO from the player who's ranked 68. Honestly, anyone obsessing over their rank (and maintaining needs to get out more). The top 100 players have found out how to maintain their ranking status: by playing amongst those in their friends list who are also high ranked. Why? Because they fear losing their ELO. It's not that much different than how people act on DOA4/DOAU.

Wait... they don't work online? But I can't find it in singleplayer, is there something I was supposed to do besides just downloading it?

  8. I never figured out how to get those stupid cars. Seems they never made a patch or whatever to get it working... may have to hop over to xbox.com and ask someone.

  9. We had to put up a sign at the store saying that "EA Sports is working on a patch" yes, it said Sports.
    Check out my blog: ExHardcoreGamer.com

  10. Hopefully the patch is for the ranking/online system and not for car designs. :P
