The only reason people won't call games or many other things art is because of pretentious ideas of what art is, and that's kind of ridiculous. Art could convey something about the human condition, sure. Or it could convey something about color. Something really obvious too. Something that the artist probably shouldn't have bothered conveying at all, but he was too stupid to realize it. Musicians express themselves artistically in the form of their compositions,how they play them, and with which instruments, not necessarily by telling us through sound that "sometimes, people is kind." Painters work with line and color for the sake of line and color. Likewise, the artistic relevance of video games shouldn't be decided entirely by something their craft isn't directly concerned with. The creative expression of video game developers is in the design of the video games, and there have been many wonderful things done, even if these things are accompanied by cheesy stories.
