Thread: Project Gotham 3

  1. Oblivion? It's being released on the PC as well.

meaning liek in GT3 & GT4 on the buildings they have glass windows & inside you can see is a 3D room so it looks more detailed then say PGR 2 which just had flat buildings with fake reflections pasted on the windows

also did you notice how many cars on screen?
To tell you the truth, with tht motion blur I wouldn't be able to tell unless I was looking explicitly for it (and I wasn't). That's so minute a detail to worry about, though; just suffice it to say the buildings looked totally authentic and real, at least in the NYC night track.

About the amount of cars, I believe there were 6-8 cars, but I have to admit my memory is a little fuzzy on that, since I was just so taken aback by the detail of the track.

  3. An update on Gotham TV from the jolly folks at 1up.

"nfo regarding the game's innovative "Gotham TV" online spectator mode. What's interesting is that this sports-style broadcast, where you literally watch friends and legends competing over Live, is a functionality that's built into the 360's online service as a tool. As a matter of fact, PGR3 developer Bizarre Creations has gone on record saying that they hope more game designers take advantage of this unique community tool in future 360 games.

Through Gotham TV, gamers will be able to view the action "sitting in the stands, toggling between different cars, or even sitting shotgun in your friend's ride, you'll have access to the most intimate look at the active (and archived) proceedings." Seriously. Sitting shotgun as your friend competes in the race of his life in PGR3's intense in-dash view will probably make this game one of the most robust online racing experiences yet.

Here's what the rest of Gotham TV will feature:

    # Heroes Channel: Watch the best of the best prove themselves.
    # Friends Channel: Root on your friends and check their progress.
    # News Ticker: Catch up on the latest news and important updates just for you.
    # Today's Highlights: Dig into best of the PGR" 3 day.
    # Hall of Fame: The best of all time.
    # Saved Replays: Your own personal archives."

This could turn out awesome. As a toolset we could see this in console FPS and RTS. Imagine being able to sit and watch tournaments and shit?

  4. Global spectating for games is something that Live desperately needs, especially when it comes to tournaments. Hopefully more developers do catch on and make use of the fact that yes, people will just sit around and watch at times because it's entertaining enough.
    Play Guitar Hero //

  5. I agree 100%. I'm not a big fan of FPS games online, but I'd love to sit in and watch friends frag each other. This feature needs to be used, especially in sports games.

I agree. I wish this was something Namco would've done with RR6.

That being said, I am slightly concerned about how Bizarre Creations will pull this off effectively. I mean what is it going to look like from the spectators perspective if the game starts lagging? I would imagine the net code has to be VERY tight in order for Gotham TV to work properly.

Like all good things in life, it'll be tight as hell. Holla at broadband and LIVE.

I'm not so sure. With playing the game, you have to have the game constantly broadcasting what it is doing, and receiving information about what the other players are doing, and using that information to update their positions and whatnot.

For viewers, you're receiving information only, not sending and receiving.

Sort of like, let's say two people are talking on the phone. One person speaks, and then must wait for the other person to speak in order to understand what has progressed in the conversation, and how to respond. If a person taps into the line, and is only listening, they can listen to the conversation without having any effect on the ongoing conversation.

I think the only real problem would be making sure that the Xbox Live servers have enough bandwidth to stream the games if there gets to be enough interest in the "viewer" idea.

  9. I would think that broadcasting games like that would not be terribly difficult (In terms of leet hax required; it still would be a lot of work). Latency is not an issue, as a player could have a feed that is delayed several seconds and not even notice it. Bandwidth should not be a massive concern either. You have the players involved in a game, and whoever the server is then sends data to another server, which broadcasts all the data to any clients watching (either directly or via a distributed network of clients). The clients and servers involved playing and watching should never directly interact, except for the game server and the central broadcast server.

I have never been big on watching games (why not play that ish), but if the service can bring up reveleant real-time and tape-delayed feeds (say of interesting high-level matches of the day/week/whatnot), it seems like it could be a really nice feature.

  10. Thats the thing, being able to watch high level players is awesome. You get to see crazy strategies unfold, especially in RTS games. You can learn a lot from Warcraft III replays.
