Thread: New Maps = Hot Sex

  1. PC's ARE the only thing that matter in the FPS genre. Halo is only popular because it is on XBOX. If it came out on PC, it would have fell to the way-side.
Halo did come out on PC, smart guy. It did pretty well. Tracer likes it a lot.

You act like I havn't already done this. I downloaded all of those the day they came out, and still, I am not playing them anymore simply because they don't have the longevity and balance that they really should. Yes, they are fun to play because the game is fun, but not because that are designed that well. You're not the only one who has logged an insane amount of Unreal 2004, because I have also.

Your living in the past. I love PC FPS's, and especially Unreal 2004, there is just no way in hell a PC FPS can provide you with an ONLINE experience now like Halo 2 on Xbox live can. They may be fun, but definately not as satisfying.

Yeah I did mean Halo 2. I got Halo for the PC and it fell by the way-side and no one played it online within a few months.

I don't know why...the most experienced FPS players are playing PC games (as a generalization). It's more satisfying to beat them than to beat people that aren't as good.

Downloading and playing are two different things. I'd also like to hear of Ut's balance issues. What are they? You've said this a couple times yet no examples.
I guess games aren't FUN to you if you have to actually develop skill. Complaining about UT's balance is insane. Name me the unbalanced maps that really stick out to you and I'll name twice as many maps that ARE completely balanced.

I guess balance wasn't what I was really looking for. Because now that I think about it Unreal 2004 is an unbelievably balanced game. Especially the weapons. I was attempting to equate balance to fun, and that isn't what I meant to do. I meant to say that a good majority of the maps in Unreal 2004 don't have the longevity and FUN that they should, not longevity and balance.

  8. If you can't like Halo2 JUST for the fact that it is on a console, you are a flat out idiot. If a game is fun, then its good, no matter where you play it. Changeling is talking about giving UT2k4 the time and actually try the new UT2k4 maps, we he should actually try to give Halo a shot espeically with the controller. I thought the same way about the controller vs KB and mouse until i really gave it a shot. I have no problem with the controller at all now. Same goes for the gameplay, once you really learn Halo - its really really deep and rewarding.

Im a huge PC FPS fan. I still play TeamFortress regularly, some 8 years after its been out!, and i can still appreciate Halo for its uniqueness and most of all - FUN.

People have been playing football on the same field with the same rules every week, for a hundred years, and it doesnt get old.
I 100% agree with this. At high level play, with a game as good as TFC, when a map like 2fort comes on (as lame as it sounds) its like a sport. Its like a pick up game of hoops. 2fort embodies everything this is TFC. The map will NEVER get old. I cant really think of any maps that stand out on UT2k4. Even Halo has its Blood Gultch, and Zanzibar (and now probably at least 2 of the new maps).

  9. Halo may not be inherently deep (it has its shining moments) but it is nothing if not fun. It certianly is just that. If you can't have fun with it your only hope is because you get motion sickness from it. Halo and Halo 2 are just that - Fun. And Halo 2 from all I've played of it owns Halo 1 in the way of Maps, online play, interface, communication, weapon selection and balance of weapons and their implementation in the maps.

Lies. I play it to this day, and even I can attest that Halo 2 is better than the first. I don't play Halo 2 because the controller ports on my Xbizzle are broken and being as badass at the PC version as I am makes the game more fun to me than it probably really is (and this is the main reason why a lot of people support their FPS of choice too, because deep down, they have more fun with it because they're so damn good at it. I like Q3 better than it deserves, and thats a lot, because I am so damn good at it).

I digress though, Halo is fun, Halo 2 is more fun... inherently.

Yeah. The other Halo 1 maps are juist for playing a game. Blood Gultch is a sport. DM17 1v1 was like that too in Q3.

  10. Thats the funniest thing I've heard all week. Wolf:ET was HORRIBLE. Play better games!
    Your opinion is wrong.

Seriously, though, ET took a long time to get into, but it kicked ass.

As far as Halo 2 goes, it has an organized community that happens to be easy as hell to get into. It also has a pretty damn unique feel to it, and I really don't see any PC FPS replacing it or being replaced by it.
