Thread: New Maps = Hot Sex

I thought the same way about the controller vs KB and mouse until i really gave it a shot. I have no problem with the controller at all now. Same goes for the gameplay, once you really learn Halo - its really really deep and rewarding.

Im a huge PC FPS fan. I still play TeamFortress regularly, some 8 years after its been out!, and i can still appreciate Halo for its uniqueness and most of all - FUN.

I 100% agree with this. At high level play, with a game as good as TFC, when a map like 2fort comes on (as lame as it sounds) its like a sport. Its like a pick up game of hoops. 2fort embodies everything this is TFC. The map will NEVER get old. I cant really think of any maps that stand out on UT2k4. Even Halo has its Blood Gultch, and Zanzibar (and now probably at least 2 of the new maps).
I have given Halo a shot on the XBOX and just didn't like it. I just can't see buying maps. If there was alot more content and gameplay changes, then I could see it.

I agree with you on 2fort but I couldn't disagree with you more when you say that there aren't memorable maps for UT. C'mon. Deck 17 . Hall of Giants. Faces. Hydro 16 . I really could go on and on. Those are memorable to me. If they aren't to you, thats cool. I could say 2fort is basic and there isn't much stategy involved, only sniping. We both know that that is complete shit, but I digress. UT has these same moments as 2fort does in my eyes. Halo fails to reach this zen-level of gameplay because it is held back by a controller.

If Halo 2 came out on PC at the same time as the XBOX, what would you have bought? The answer is obvious and the reasons are too.

I meant to say that a good majority of the maps in Unreal 2004 don't have the longevity and FUN that they should, not longevity and balance.
I really want to know why you think that Unreal doesn't have the "fun" that Halo 2 has. What is the difference?

    Yeah, that makes sense.
It only sold like that because it is on the XBOX. Lets see Battlefield 2 or Halo2.... C'mon. Of course Halo would do ok on PC but it wouldn't be "the largest media release of all-time" Kinda like the way Halo was recieved on the PC. Quit being blind.

God damn't g0zen, havn't you learned anything in this thread?
    Yawn.. Humor...

I got it now.. Yer droppin a newsflash that more people have XBOXs than they do PC's. Wow! Amazing. Who would have ever thought.

  2. The PC game market has shrunk about 15% last year and the year before. I dare say that the PC game market is floundering, as no games are selling unless they are by Valve, or Blizzard, or EA. When I started at EB there was a huge wall dedicated to PC games, now its relegated to one of those four ways where they normally put dance pads and Mad Catz controllers. A game thats on both the PC and Xbox will sell twice as many copies as Xbox, and guess what, publishers know this. Why do you think Ghost Recon 2 was canned for PC?

It doesnt speak well of the future of the platform, especially when you can have a game like Doom 3, top of the line type stuff, 90% accurate on a 4 year old console (and a better, more well-designed game to boot). We might be looking at the same sort of thing that killed arcades 10 years ago, when the cheaper, more convenient hardware started closing the gap and started to render the previously more-advanced tech useless.

And guess what, most people dont want to spend hours downloading mods and map packs and character packs and patches and drivers for PC games so they can play the game hunched over their 17" when they can buy a $50 game and a $70 live package for their $130 console that is, yes, just as much fun. And can be played on their huge TV while theyre lying on the couch.

As for the mouse keyboard stuff... if you started playing m+k first, thats what feels better. If you started playing controller first, thats what feels better. Thats all there is to it. There are people who still swear by the SpaceOrb 360, probably because it was one of the first ways they played these games.

Console games sell more than PC games? No shit?

I think EA discovered this about a decade ago. Glad to see you finally caught up.

I love the arguement "There is hardly any shelf space for PC games in a store the size of a fucking broom closet!". If you are going to judge something by the size of its shelf space, then the GBA is an utter failure. Also, when I walk into Best Buy, I need to walk past 3 rows of PC software to get to the 2 rows of ALL the console games. So much for your theory.

Your other points are valid. But what? PC Gaming is going to cease to exist? PC Gaming will become like Apple/Mac gaming is? Is that what you are saying?

  5. I'm gonna have hot sex with three people all day tomorrow, sad am I that I don't have access to the hot sex everyday :/

  6. Console games sell more than PC games? No shit?
No man, Im not saying market share has shrunk, I said game sales have shrunk. PC games are selling less and less each year.

PC Gaming will become like Apple/Mac gaming is? Is that what you are saying?
That PC fanboys like Changeling cant see that he's in a very very very small minority and that most people prefer a console experience like Halo 2 over a PC experience like UT2004.

As for where the PC market is heading... eh... it looks like its gonna be consisting of MMOs and niche strategy games. Not too too exciting. As for PC game sales in that particular store... when I started they made up about 55% of total sales. Now its like 10%.

I think most people are lazy or uninformed and like the ease of use that Halo 2/XBL provides. Its not that it is a better experience, its that it is just easier for the average, casual gamer to pick up on.

Until they enable a true KBAM on consoles, FPS will always pale compared to PC ones. Plain truth.

The level of competition, the variety of play and games, the payouts (CPL), the leagues, the communities. Its all on PC. If you are serious FPS player, it is where you play.

Halo is just all PC FPS's blurred into a blender and spit out for the masses. Like the McDonalds of FPS.That's not a knock. They took what made GoldenEye great, added a shitload of features, and with the advent of XBL, you have a million dollar seller and phenomenon.

Ohsnap, you called me a jackass! I feel stupid.

I'm sorry I have caused you to go into internet rage because you play the FPS equivalent of Armies of Exigo.
