Thread: New Maps = Hot Sex

  1. After the new patch, it very well is completely, and almost unbelievably balanced. Shit, I can fight anyone with almost anything now. A single plasma rifle can take on a BR, an SMG can take on a sword, a brtue shot can take on dual wielders or the rockets. Really, every weapon has a reason to be feared now, there is no balance issue. Also, play Lockout, Containment, Ivory Tower, Beaver Creek, Headlong and especially Turf then tell me that Halo 2 doesn't have incredible level design.

Shut your fucking mouth. You're just mad becuase I knocked up your girlfriend and Morphix won't pay for the abortion.

    I won't either. Stop calling.

  2. OK...and I don't think it does. I think the architecture is too simple too look good for 2004 and the maps have either little flow or cluster flow where it's like Morbius for UT or something.

If someone were to tell me that Halo 2 is the best online FPS out there I'd say, "you have a point". Its not a bad choice by any means.
Exactly. It's one of many choices. It really boils down to your play style, and how much fun you have when you play it. Saying any one FPS is the greatest is stupid.

I'm not arguing that Halo 2 isn't fun, or convienent. I am arguing that it isn't the best.

I'll give you an analogy Diff. Imagine Armies of Exigo (a complete copycat, slightly above average RTS) gets released on XBL (EA figures a way to make RTS games work on consoles with a controller). It becomes an instant hit. Millions of people buy it because its the best RTS game on the console and it has easy multiplay capability.

Does it deserve to be mentioned as one of the greatest RTS of all time?

  4. Hey man, you didnt answer my question. In your opinion, what *is* the greatest multiplayer FPS ever?

I want to say TFC is but Valve ruined that game with their shitty patches from v1.5 on. Likewise, CounterStrike got worse over time.

And to Joust: I dont think balance matters a whole lot. Quake 1 has absolutely no semblance of balance whatsoever but a good argument can be made for it being the best DM FPS ever.

  5. THere is no best. Quake 3 is a very good pure DM game of high skill. Tribes was a very good teamoriented game of chess with an extremely large number of players. I don't think you get points because you can cobble a bunch of stuff together and its pretty good but not great at anything.

About the balance, I don't think anyone *who is not fond of Q1* would play Quake 1 now if it came out.

  6. Opaque, just for kicks, give me a 'Played it' or 'Havent played it' on the following games, once for 5 minutes doesnt count, be honest.

    Team Fortress:
    Counterstrike:
    Day of Defeat:
    Battlefield series (specify):
    Quake series (specify):
    Unreal Tournament series (specify):
    Tribes series (specify):
    Soldier of Fortune series (specify):
    Doom series (specify):
    Jedi Knight series (specify):

    .
So then you are saying a certain version of TFC is the best FPS ever?

It's impossible in someones lifetime to play the required amount of time to make that kind of assessment. Like any video game arguement, comparing one game from one generation to another isn't possible either. Also, with certain FPS, the game can change radically from update to update. (Cstrike 1.5 is considered the best by some. Whereas DOD 3.1 is considered the best by others). Even Halo 2 experienced this when it was released. Alot of the top players still preferred the original.

I have logged 100's of hours into TFC,DOD and Goldeneye. Dozens of hours into Quake/Doom/Wolf etc. and casually played Halo, Far Cry, Call of Duty, [fps of the moment]. So, I really can't comment on the best, except I have had the most fun with TFC, DOD, and Goldeneye.

Shit, if I knew that all along I wouldn't have been arguing. We all know better than saying Halo 2 is the greatest FPS ever. I know I definately never said that.

We all know "It came from the desert" is the best FPS ever:

Steam has been around since the summer of '03. Also, all HL1 games have built-in voice. It's one reason why they are so popular.

    Good job, X-bot.

  10. Brand, please tell me that's XBox Live Enabled.
