Thread: New Maps = Hot Sex

  1. My computer does what I expect from it, which doesn't include playing video games. That in mind, I have zero interest in PC gaming beyond card/puzzle games and the necessary upgrades to continually play games thereof. No mention of the quality of the games, many of which are actually available on consoles.

    Allen

  2. So you refuse to play some of the best videogames with the best graphics, because of .. principle? Economics? Apathy?

Why would you deny a platform that has existed for 20 years (and has been superior for much of those 20 years)?

  3. I dont think the PC is superior...

Say it with me toxic, "strengths and weaknesses".

I don't think the PC is superior now, there is too much cheap, good variety with handhelds and consoles. But over the past 20 years, much of the time, it was. It would have good years and bad years in comparison to consoles. I think the tide has turned irreversably this past generation.

i just get riled when people completely dismiss PC gaming. It will always exist, and will always have multiple superior, exclusive titles.

  5. It isn't like every title released on the PC is an A+ title, though. I won't deny that there are a number of great PC games, but the platform isn't the alpha and the omega of gaming. Yes, the graphics have the potential to be far better than a console release, but you can't honestly say that every game truly pushes the platform.

And there are valid reasons for wanting to avoid PC gaming. I quit around the release of Tribes 2, when I paid $70 for the game first day only to find out that the disc didn't like my CD-ROM drive. I went out and bought a new drive, installed the game, and found out that the servers were broken, and that my video drivers also had some issues with the game. I updated the drivers, waited a few days until I could actually connect, and realized that the game ran like trash in nearly every way. I upgraded my system, and it helped, but the game still didn't run that smoothly, and I kept having hideous problems actually connecting to the game. After that I bought a console and a Mac, packed up my PC, and that was that. If there's a PC game that I need to play (like Doom 3 or Half-Life 2), I'll play it at a friend's place or in the nicely upgraded university arcade. I think that stating that PC games are irrelevant is a misinformed, kneejerk reaction, but I can see why some prefer consoles. But at the same time, I don't see PC games as being far superior to XBox titles in any way. If the gap between the two platforms was far more significant, I'd spring for a new PC in a heartbeat. But I have played most recent PC titles on a proper system, and I can't honestly say that any recent titles made me want to drop Halo 2. This is another useless platform war, you man bitches.

Console fps games are modified so that aiming with a stick isn't a huge restriction (if you don't suck, which apparently you do). You can prefer a kb+mouse combo over a pad and I'll have no problem with it (I might even agree with you), but to say that that particular control scheme is perfect and that console fps games are moot because pads are useless is plain fucking idiocy.

Xbox live may be a pay service but that doesn't stop it from shitting on the competition. Everyone who mentions steam in rebuttle is immediately fucked in the head, as you all know how much steam blows (badoom CHING!).

People complaining about purchasing new maps: it is no different to buying expansion packs. Before you argue that expansion packs hold more, they also cost alot more, so it evens out. Fan made stuff generally blows (shut up it does), so you can fuck off with your "BUT U CEN MOD IT NAD MAKE LEVLES" babble.
I have not had 1 problem with Steam. I have heard people complain, but for me, it works without a hitch.
Paying to download maps the same as buying an expansion pack?! Right . Get off the party pole, sissy. Expansion packs DO cost more, because you GET more. If I buy Battlefield:Road to Rome, I am not only gettinga shit-load of new maps, I'm getting new vehicles, classes, new ways to play. If I go to planet Battlefield and download maps for free, that is different.

Saying that "fan-made stuff generally blows" shows how little you know. Where do you think Counterstrike came from , among many many others , you little poof.

Same here, but just because my launch import PS2 is still working doesn't mean Sony has great quality standards.

Note the generally. And he's right. More than half of all fan-made content sucks.
