Thread: New Maps = Hot Sex

  1. Im saying that the platform is irrelevant to the quality of an FPS game. Being on the PC does not give an FPS any inherent advantages. Nobody can say, "FPS X is on the PC so its better" anymore. Maybe you couldve said that 10 years ago or five years ago but not anymore.

Anyway, thats all Im trying to say. Im done with this stupid argument. Peace.

That's only because of the people we're playing. In rank and file games, you can usually bob and weave until you find some cover. If you're out in the open though, you're fucked. Rightly so, too.

Also, I've had two BR bursts over Opaque only to have him still come back and kill me. So, skill and aim is a big factor.

A fully powered-up plasma pistol shot followed by machine gun fire is pretty effective. Two machine guns are ok, too, but it feels like the machine gun/pistol that I used so much in the past sucks balls now. The battle rifle is a lot better than I gave it credit for.

Yeah grenades have been useless for me for the most part, I need to work on accuracy and judging the fuse for situations. I've had TONS of people kill me with that melee attack - its like the lunge and crack me on the head - even while facing forward and I still die instantly from it. Is there some special version of the melee attack they're doing that I'm missing? Or is it just that they have me "locked on" and the melee attack is more effective when locked on?

And yeah, I've realized that when I dont get the jump on someone, I'm usually dead. Halo 2 feels so much different from Halo PC online, where if you were awesome with the pistol you could basically hold your own in most situations no matter how chaotic or regardless of whether you were attacked first, in Halo 2 you dont have the benefit and accuracy of the mouse, so you have to rely more on tactical advantage.

Also, I was trying to dodge some sniper fire - doing the back and forth weaving thing - and it didn't work at all, I was still getting hit - is there a better way to dodge that shit?

It depends on the sniper really. If bobbing and weaving doesn't work, see if you can shoot him to get him out of scope, a grenade is a good last ditch option here. Or just make a beeline for cover. Whatever you do though, don't jump! Jumping only slows you down and makes you only a bigger target as you soar helplessly through the air.

If a sniper has any skill whatsoever he can get a shot off on you while you're in air, a really good one will make it a headshot.

    KBAM.

I guess making valid points is a waste of time, since you just ignore them or bail out.

I'm done too. In fact, this has inspired me. I'm going to play Golden Tee Golf on a keyboard, so I can get something similar to a console FPS experience.

There's no lock on or special melee attack, but all the different weapons do different damage with it. If you really know what you're doing, I guess you shoot someone until you feel it's enough then run in and kill them with it. I think the brute shot is pretty much a one hit melee kill... and yeah, I suck with grenades too, but it seems that everyone and their mothers know how to get me with them =*(

As for this, I think we both just suck at it and need more practice.

If someone's even a decent sniper, though, the auto-aim's compensation makes dodging near impossible from a certain range I think.

Apparently it's also inspired you to be a sarcastic DB.

FPS games are generally better on the PC, and as far as single-player goes, the best ones are EASILY on the PC (and here I'm thinking of games like NOLF and HL2).

Regardless of the many points you'd like to make, or the control options, or anything else that is a factor, and this is important here, Halo 2 remains one of the best online multiplayer experiences I've ever taken part in. Maybe it's the sum of the parts, like the awesome Live service, the damned impressive netcode that means I never have to lead my shots and very rarely see people "teleport," etc. Maybe it's something as simple as the TNL regulars I play with. I don't know, but there it is.

Yeah I figure its just a matter of practicing, I'm only rank 1 if that gives you any idea of how bad I suck. But then I have been mainly sticking to the training modes. Its puzzling, some games I get 15 plus kills and other games only 2-4 (!).

Thats what makes it fun for me, it gets old going quickmatching into games with complete jerkwads who do their gangsta routine or the kids who sound like sqeak toys, but when you're playing with friends its just brilliant, I should've bought the communicator ages back.

  8. In Matchmaking Games, you're stuck with jerks you don't know.

In Custom Games, you're stuck with jerks that know you.

    P.S.: Steel Cougar sucks.

It's so true, and Steel Cougar is the most annoying kid ever.

Station, really you should just give it time, you get better everytime you play. I've been playing the game for 6 months straight, and I still find myself getting better the more I play. Like Cowdisease said, post in the Clan Thread, it's the cool Halo 2 thread
