Thread: Zelda 2005 leak

  1. Using Minish Cap as an example is pretty weak. Compare it to other series' GBA output (Splinter Cell, MGS, FF) and it is outstanding. Even compared it to other games in its genre (Shining Soul, Kingdom Hearts to a certain extent) and it is leagues better than those.
Compared to other Zelda games on GB, though, it is pitifully weak. And like I said the game just doesnt have the draw it used to... of course, if Zelda now has 50% of the draw that Zelda 95 did, its still more than most games, but the series just isnt what it used to be.

There have been more Zelda games since 1999 then there was from 1985-1998. Its really diluted the series, especially since the lot of these games are just rehashes of previous efforts. Competent rehashes, but rehashes nonetheless. Thats my biggest problem with the series.

Remember folks, if all else fails, post sales figures statistics.
You fucking idiot, RoleTroll said the game would sell better than the GTA series combined, I posted those numbers to show it was impossible unless 15 million people buy the GC just for this game, and that wont happen of course.

Now, apparently I misunderstood what he was saying, but...

I meant how well the GTAs will sell during Zelda's launch week, not how well they've sold before now.
This should be obvious, and isnt a surprising statement at all.

I was talking about both of you. I don't give a crap about sales figures in a Zelda thread is all. And as you just proved yourself, your reply was pointless since only a clueless newb out of their mind would say one single Zelda game would outsell all the GTA games' installed base. But hey, if sales figures and numbers are interesting then post away, Rain Man.

So are you saying that you would play it if it was an old un-original rehash of the original Zelda as compared to a rehash of Ocarina of Time?
Not that I really care because we all know you've transcended into a superior realm of "all console games suck" so your opinions while definitely interesting to read are moot to a lot of people here.

It does seem like Nintendo tries to placate the fans of its series though by keeping a lot of its games fundamentally similar to its previous incarnations. And, while I thankfully will probably be able to find enjoyment of what is probably going to be another rehash of OoT, I do kind of miss the age when Nintendo took more risks in originality - look at how different Super Mario Brothers 2 was from Super Mario Brothers 1, Adventures of Link from Zelda 1,Metroid Prime from Metroid,MArio 64 from Mario 3, etc.
When they go out on a limb and try something new - awesome I'll check it out.If they want to keep a similar style to a really good game in their latest offering then cool, I'll check that out too - So I guess I'm fortunate to not be really nitpicky...

One day I (or maybe all of us) will end up in the same state of mind of diff but until that happens I'm going to enjoy myself and not let anyone tell me whats fun and what isnt....

Well said, Jet. I too enjoy the "daring" 8-bit days when they were willing to wildly vary a sequel from the original. As you said they still do this once in awhile abit such as with Metroid Prime (though it still eumulates the old games brilliantly) And I seriously doubt I'll ever be as bored as diff myself.

Anyways, Miyamoto and Aonuma just can't win. Miyamoto unveils WW and it's too kiddy/much too different (I was guilty of this viewpoint), then he allows Aonuma to make an epic "adult" Zelda and net monkeys cry "rehash." *yawn* Aonuma hinted in the new EGM that fan wishes for a return to the "adult" style of OoT did have a bit of influence, so whether you cry rehash or ya love it, you're getting the result of the collective outcry over WW's art style (coupled with a need for one more GC blockbuster of course).

WHAT? My point was Zelda will not sell as many copies of GTA3 at lauch, meaning, GTA3 sold more copies in it's first 2 weeks than Zelda will at launch. What the hell strawman argument are you trying to pull?

Why the hell would I compare an almost 2 year old game's sales with a new games figure?

Not only is part of that not true, it's also completely irrelevant. What would me playing a lot of Halo, or in theory not going outside much, have to do with anything you were talking about?

If you seriously believe I think that, then youre on crack. Really bad crack.

Wind Waker has absolutely some of the best graphics ever made. But the gameplay is lame. The gameplay is a rehash of Ocarina from beginning to end. Thats why I dont like the game, thats why I didnt like it upon release and thats always been my main criticism of it.

The hell are you talking about? For one thing, SMB2 was a totally different game released in America with Mario Sprites and new packaging, that had nothing to do with Nintendo taking a risk with a sequel (and the actual sequel that Nintendo did make was almost the exact same thing as SMB). For another, Prime was this generation and Mario 64 was last, making your supposed "age when Nintendo took risks" lasting the entire lengthspan that they've been making games. A game here or there isn't a constant.

I agree with everything said here.

Lucky for me I hadn't really played Ocarina or Majora's Mask, so WW was fresh enough that I loved every minute of it. Except the sailing, that got old.
