Something doesn't have to be complicated to be intelligent. The "fewer assholes in the world" policy is both genius in concept and in simplicity.
Some of you treat life about the same way that Jeremy decides on what games to buy. Fuck the quality of life that this person will be introduced into, all that matters is saving that life. Many of you seem to claiming that quantity is more important than quality.
Yes, it would be great if these people would start using protection, or just stop having sex all together. But that isn't the reality. Crappy people generally have more kids and raise said kids to be crappy.
There is nothing "17 year oldish" about my opinion. I'm being honest with myself and everyone here. Banning abortions or not letting this girl have one, will not turn the world into the ideal one that you wish it would be.
Fuck your kids.

The irony of you wanting to get rid of the less competent members of our society isn't lost on anyone.Originally Posted by IronPlant

Uh... I'm for the abortion.Originally Posted by IronPlant

Any rational person knows that abortions are terrible. Whether you think they should be legal or not, they are not something we should be making a habit of. With that in mind, there is only one clear-cut, 100% effective way to not get a girl pregnant: not having sex with her. (I'm not going to mention vasectomy and other surgery, it's not that common.) The argument goes, "Didn't want to risk having a kid? Shouldn't have had sex." So, in other words, don't have casual sex - wait until you're married or decide you want a child.
If nobody has casual sex, there's no need for abortions. But we can't stop people from having sex, so we have to ban abortions because we think that will stop people from getting it on wantonly.
Now, I know that if abortion becomes illegal, I will not have sex with my girlfriend. And while I would love to be an optimist here, I highly doubt most other people would do the same; bell curve and all. So, abortion is the only way to solve the unwanted child problem, unless we can somehow improve adoption programs.
Forget all of the nonsense about whether it's a part of her body, if it's alive, has a beating heart, if it's her body and her choice, whatever: unwanted children shouldn't be born. I would rather a child grow up in the deepest ghetto possible to parents who absolutely love him/her than to be "raised" by some slutty middle-class girl who will leave the kid with her parents while she goes out to the club. Or to be raised by Mom only (or Dad only, in some rare instances) and spend a life in day care - that sucks, too.
I bet no one is in shock about your reply either.Originally Posted by Kano on the Phone

Personally, and HERE comes the LJ philosophy, contrary to what I was writing prior, I just want to be happy. It's too much trouble for me to try and keep everyone else happy. In fact I think it's impossible.
I wouldn't want to ever abort a child but if I knew I couldn't give that kid a good life I'd abort it. It's important to me that my child is happy and well and if I can't provide that I'm not going to bring a kid into the world. I don't like abortion but I'll take it over ruining everyone's life.
I don't like vanity abortions though, like I said. I don't think people that think it's okay to go on aborting baby after baby like it's nothing are okay. I think it would be good if they were prevented from doing that somehow, or even punished for doing so.
I am responsible with my birth control. I do pretty much everything I can to make sure I'm not going to have a kid before I'm ready. I'd like to hold everyone to my standards, but that's not being realistic. Ideally I'd just have government-enforced birth control until you are ready to have a child.
See, I hear this all the time and I have no idea where it comes from. I don't know anyone that's had a "vanity" abortion. Nobody that I know, and I'm talking about friends, family, etc., knows anyone who has had a "vanity" abortion. I've never read about them in the paper, never heard about them in school, anything. So where does the idea come from? Are we making up figures? The only time I hear them mentioned is when someone is arguing in a forum like this. If it were so common, I'd have to have heard about SOMEONE getting abortion after abortion. I'm sure it happens, but I highly doubt it's something that occurs on a regular basis.Originally Posted by Cowutopia
The problem is that you're not contributing serious discussion here. The "I hate everyone, I hope they die," stuff is funny elsewhere, but not in a thread like this.Originally Posted by IronPlant
And if you are serious, then you deserve all the negative comments.

But you can call it "The girl who doesn't give a shit about birth control because she knows she'll just get an abortion." You know, not a fuck up that results in her pregnancy, but rather a state of mind that "I don't need to use protection because I can just abort if I get pregnant." People like this should have something done. Like maybe they can be arrested and sentenced to have that birth-control implant.
