I agree that she should take responsibility and all, but it's really unfair to treat a baby as a form of punishment. Forcing a girl this young to be thrust into a role she's not ready for is really just as much or more of a punishment to the child as is to the girl.Originally Posted by diffusionx

A 13 year old is a child, capable of making poor decisions. This kid has every reason to want an abortion, and it is in the general public's best interest as well to not force her to have a child she is not capable of taking care of and doesn't want. As a pro-lifer myself, I see it like this: I'd rather have the chance.
But I wish you could require adoptions. There are lots of people who CAN'T have children, and for this junk to run rampant is sickening.
So, instead of abortions, you'd force childless couples to adopt?
Uh...okay.
EDIT: Oh wait, I get it, you'd force the mother to put the child up for adoption. That makes sense, though the adoption system is pretty screwed up. They still won't allow stable gay couples to adopt, and in some states it's still even hard for interracial race couples.

That's the most important part of the article for me. According to state law there is ABSOLUTELY no reason that this should be in court right now.State law allows minors to have abortions without notifying their guardians. Experts say the law extends to wards of the state, raising the question of why this girl's decision has ended up before a judge.
