Thread: dungeon lords

  1. dungeon lords

Ok i was peruseing the local EB/gamestop/nameless hybrid horror, and i saw a box for dungeon lords. From the look on the back it had a kind of morrowind/gothic vibe, so i ask you good posters, whats the verdict? gamerankings has nothing so far, and i know/trust this boards tastes a bit better than a bunch of reviewers anyhow, so enlighten me, is it a good, fun open-ended rpg like morrowind, or is it a stale dungeon crawl? Enlighten me for i am lazy.

  2. Only thing I know is that it has some serious bugs and issues with ATI cards and that the devs said a patch is coming soon next week. I think you should wait a bit for reviews and see what other problems the game may have.

  3. Try the demo and see for yourself... that it sucks. Apparently, the retail version had an assload of bugs and missing features as well.

  4. G4 showed a little on this game a few weeks back on X Play, and Cinematech. Like the name suggests, it lookes like your run-of-the-mill dungeon crawler hack and slash. It didn't really look that fun at all to me (and I love dungeon crawler games, they're this generation's beat-em-ups), but it's possible that the person playing it just wasn't any good at it.

I find that this is the case with almost all video reviews.

i found the demo, and it has issues with being too spazzy in the control, im going to fiddle with it a bit more and see if i can get into it. it has promise, definitly, and i like some ideas of it, but it seems kind of like a diet morrowind. i must meditate on this.

  7. The demo was horrid

The game was developed by DW Bradley, one of the gents behind (part of) the Wizardry series. His last title was Wizards & Warriors, which was essentially a Wizardry knockoff. It had some nice aspects, and some not so nice ones - a bit rough around the edges, and missing some planned features.

Dungeon Lords feels like a strange effort by him to modernize some very classic (some would say archaic) gameplay cliches. The fact that it still has 'Ninjutsu' as a skill makes me chuckle :P

None of which helps you decide if its worth picking up. Sorry!

I'd recommend visiting the official boards and gauging the amount of indignant outrage against the volume of blind fanboy responses as a method of deciding if it is worth paying for. That or wait for some more serious reviews to show up.
